Of course it is normal to be nervous about travelling to places you are not familiar with, and there is no doubt that in today's world, everywhere has some sort of risk.

BUT, look at it this way ~ if you stay at home you could be hit by a bus!

I have travelled on my own in several places and found that as long as you follow the same sort of rules as you do at home (don't go into dark alleyways, or go in cars with strangers, for example) you should be quite safe.

If you are nervous, try to travel with friends when you go, and stay in reputable places that have been recommended.

Try not to give in to alarm or nerves, you will simply be depriving yourself of a great experience. Nothing ventured ~ nothing gained!

Good luck and best wishes :-)

New York yes. Bali no. I can't believe that people are still talking about 2 bombings that happened in Bali years ago. Bali is one of the safer places to travel. They have bombings in Thailand just about every other week and you never hear a thing about them. Bali has had a bad rap. Two terrorists threats and people have let them screw up the Balinese ecconomy for no reason at all. That makes the terrorists the winners. What are you people thinking?>

edit: Sorry Angelina, Bali is one of my favorite places in the world. I feel much safer there than I do in the US. It is normal to worry about things like this but your information is out of date. go to Bali. You will have the best time ever. Please don't worry. I hate the fact that my balinese friends are haveing financial difficulties over something that has very little actual influence on the saftey of anyone in Bali>

I agree....
Bali is the most peaceful island in the world.
maybe i said this as a Balinese, but i really like this island...
all the things was great...

Maybe you have trauma with the bombing...
it's OK, but all the place have it's own risk
if want 100% safe don't go anywhere and just stay at your house. but it's also dangerous if there is an earthquake or other. our life is all about our fate.
maybe ^^

for all people that maybe couldn't came to Bali i write this blog for all of you.
hope will help to understand all information about my beloved island

It is normal to be excited and perhaps apprehensive about moving into the unknown.
It is not normal to be scared. If you feel fear because of past terrorist events, you are playing straight into the hands of the terrorists, whose sole aim is to make you scared.
It is not - repeat NOT their aim to please their god or to further their religious ideals in carrying out these attacks, 'cause let's face it, their faith states (in their religion) the more converts you can make, the more God will love you. But how do you convert a dead person.
It will happen again. That's Karma, and that's nasty, evil brainwashed fanaticism for you.
If you let it worry you, you are playing right into their hands. They are succeeding in their objectives.
Stay cool,
