that's a simple answer its a German shepherd. No other dog is as versatile as a shepherd no other breed of dog is more widely used by government agencies form around the world than a shepherd WHY?. People might say well my greyhound is faster or my Rottweiler is stronger and that's true but whatever attributes these dogs have which are better than a shepherd you can bet that a shepherd has a dozen or so more. Shepherds are extremely quick they have more stamina than most breeds there more agile there the best protection/security working dogs and last but not least there the most intelligent breed by far you can train a shepherd to do almost anything. As i was once told by a breeder a shepherd may not be number one at anything but there number two at everything. Ive got three and and a staffie (which i reckon are the second best) so you might think I'm a little biased but if you think about it I'm right.

BELGIAN MALINOIS- I have worked with many breeds, and they are definately the best. That's why police and military prefer them over German Shepherd Dogs. They are affectionate to family, a little aloof to strangers, good drive, work well, and NO HEALTH PROBLEMS, that is most important, why breed unhealthy dogs with genetic issues?

Now, what dog's are popular? You will get a different answer- labs, GSDS, Yorkies, Poodle, Pugs (eeew), they are all popular, but doesn't mean they're any good. ALthough many dogs are great, but for different purposes! Ex. guide dogs, hunting dogs, or lap dogs.

By the way, Shitzu is rated one of the LEAST trainable dogs, and why would you want a mixed mutt?

I have two Weimaraners, a Rhodesian Ridgeback and a Staffy.

Although my Wiems and Staffy are adorable I just love Ridgebacks. Loyal and gentle they are, to me, the perfect dog.

Ridgebacks are not for novice owners though.

Staffys come a close second, they too are loyal although they need training to stop them jumping on you - it's like being hit by a barrel, lol!

Not really a best. There are great breeds of all sizes - - the best dog for you is the dog's personality matching yours & what you expect from them (super active, laid back, hunter, work dog, guard dog, lap dog, etc...)

I had a variety of breeds in different size catagories - - they were all great dogs.

Had Toy Manchester, Toy Rat Terrier, Samoyian, Cocker Spaniel & Snowzer cross, English Shephard, Australian Shepherd. Each one was great dogs.

I think the best breed needs to fit the person that has it. I'm a lab person but I'm very active and love being outside so my dogs are with me all the time.

I'm going to vote for the Old Time Farm Shepherd. Rare breed, and I'm lucky to have a mix of it. They are fabulous all-purpose dogs, as well and being incredibly striking to look upon.

That is kind of a personal opinion type of question, but I tend to be the most fond of Sighthounds, Mastiffs, and mutts.

I like the grace, beauty, quietness, and agility of sighthounds, especially Whippets, Salukis, and Borzois, the power, loyalty, and goofiness of Mastiffs, and the odd-ball mixture you get with mutts that is just pure 'dog'.

I currently have two mutts and a English Mastiff, and I am going to get a whippet once I move to my new house (bigger yard).

Hope this answers your question. :).

Well i myself really don`t think that it matters what Breed they are.I love my mutts. Most people that focus on wanting a full Breed dog are just getting them to impress others, they think. The personality of all dogs counts a lot more.

What ever dog is well trained and fits in to your lifestyle. Breed is not the most important factor.
