She definitely has separation anxiety ; as she cries and cries when we are gone and come home. i have heard she was abused as a puppy. but has been well loved i think for 6 years. I really need to get her to stop as my boyfriend is ready to get rid of her

Does she ever do that when you're home? You have to be extremely careful that she never ever gets a chance to go on the carpet when you're home. Watch her diligently and rush her out the door if that happens.

If it's only when you're not home, then it looks like you might have to resort to crating her when you're not home. It's really not as bad as it might sound. She might resist at first, but she will grow to feel that is her own cozy space. Dogs will not soil their own little space. Make sure you take her out as soon as you get home. After a while, you can "wean" her from her crating by leaving her out while you're gone. Try not to be gone for too long at one time for the first many times that you leave her out alone. Eventually, if she is successful with that, you can increase the length of time that she is out alone. With time and patience, you should have the problem resolved -- saving a lot of frustration for all 3 of you. Good luck to you!

My friend had the same problem & crate training didn't work for her, what she does is tie her dog up in the kitchen, enough lead so she can play. She put puppy training pads down & when she does do her business it's only on the puppy pad. Also she only gives her dog treats when she pees & poops outside. It's taking time but is working & her dog was a rescue dog too & was abused as a puppy.
Good Luck
