My dog has emotions - he must have a soul too?

Dogs have "faculties of thought, action and emotion". Do dogs have eternal souls? I'm not an atheist, but if you'd like a definition from a REAL dictionary, particularly for this forum, try this one from the Encarta World English Dictionary:

"Spirit surviving death: In some systems of religious belief, the spiritual part of a human being that is believed to continue to exist after the body dies."

I don't think you can be human if you don't have emotions, emotions mean that we understand what is happening around us, that we are affected by what we and others do, Our emotion help us connect to other humans, in that light, emotions have nothing to do with spirituality. The phrase "Atheists only have material things and earthly desires", Is not very accurate, yes we as humans love material things, Not just athiests, humans as a whole! That is why some people give up material things, to show that they have no hold over them even though it is very hard. Why do we give money in the box at church? The priest needs material things to survive! eg. House, Food, Company! We are all alike in the way that we value possesions and have emotions, lets not try and seperate and exclude people by prejudice!

I pick definition number 1. All the soul is is your life force. It is not immortal and dies with you. Number 2 is just a definition of how some people believe a soul to be. It doesn't make it true. Emotions come from a lively brain. How do you explain autistic people who have no emotions or other such brain conditions? Do you think they have no "soul" as well?

Who says atheists don't believe in the "soul?" I'm sure some don't, but there are plenty of us spiritual atheists who do. And who says you need a soul to have emotions ? Your question makes so many illogical jumps, it can't even keep up! I guess that's a prerequisite for those who believe in invisible sky dwellers.

Human emotions are caused by chemical reactions in the brain. Missed biology class, did you?

All emotion can be explained by biological processes. Hormones, chemical balances, and brain functions. Further more, emotions can be manipulated by changing hormone levels, glucose levels, etc.
