Tea is such a wonderful thing that it can be taken in so many different ways. I once worked in an office where we had to have detailed instructions put up in the kitchen as to how everyone wanted their tea as they were all so different - ranging from hot water with the teabag dipped in slightly to strong tea, brewed for at least 5 minutes, bag squeezed 5 times, and then 2 teaspoons of milk added! Bizzarre. But I do like tea how you describe. nice strong, white cuppa (although for me without the sugar).

Too many people rush to make a cuppa.Quick dunk of the teabag into a cup instead of letting it brew in a pot.Milk should be added last and not before pouring the tea or you cant judge how milky it will turn out.I never give anyone a cup of tea that I wouldn't like to drink myself.I'm very fussy about my tea too.And I always make sure I have some nice biscuits on offer for visitors.
I make a point of asking how people prefer their tea when I'm making it for them.

Lol. I suppose really, your client is not obliged to make you a cuppa anyway. I always make a drink for my visitors, whoever they may be. I would also politely ask, "How do you take it?" Theres less chance of getting it wrong. If I have lots of guests, I would make it in the teapot. (Yes, we regularly use a teapot :-) ) I always warn them that I only use skimmed milk. They then have the choice to refuse, but never have. I've not had any complaints, apart from forgeting to put in the sugar occasionally.

OK i really prefer Twinnings Morning Breakfast but part from that ... Totally agree with you if i don't like sugar so wouldn't have any.

My last lot of builders made me laugh because their choice of a good cup of tea went from baby tea (Lots of milk and plenty sugar) To tar like tea (That strong you could walk on it) so i guess we all have our own idea of the perfect cup of tea if!!! All agree! Best cup of tea goes down even better when served with a couple of chocolate biscuits LOL

To make a good cuppa you need to be a dedicated tea drinker like yourself! I can't make coffee well as i don't really drink the stuff myself, but my cups of tea are always complimented!

I make a killer cup of tea. But then again I am a tea drinker. If you come decorate my house, I'll make you a nice cup of tea. I think all those people are coffee drinkers.

People generally make tea the way they like to drink it, which is why I make coffee weak and milky and everyone else complains!! I don't drink tea so I usually admit it and ask how people like it first. Your best option is to say exactly how you like it BEFORE its made - then you might get it drinkable.

i'm chinese so i'm composed of tea rather than water. any kind of tea will do, i'd drink it and and i'd like it. so if i get served "mud" i'd be genuinely happy - not faking it. if there is tea leaves in my cup, i might just eat the leaves.

thus, i love tea. good tea is a bonus.

your definition of 'decent' is very personal

you sound like someone who thinks he's a great gourmet, because he can tell the difference between a burger king burger and a McDonald's burger

I do drink the tea bag stuff, but my own personal preference is
Green gunpowder tea buds, in a metal infuser. boiling water.
No cow juice or refined sugar - just as it is.

Perhaps You are just too particular?

Good tea is subjective. Maybe you should just say "No" when they ask?

If you're using tea bags you aren't making "good tea". And squeezing the bag is BIG no-no.
