The diagnostic criteria for migraine type headache are as follows:
Migraine without Aura
A. At least five headache attacks lasting 4 - 72 hours (untreated or unsuccessfully treated), which has at least two of the four following characteristics:
1. Unilateral location
2. Pulsating quality
3. Moderate or severe intensity (inhibits or prohibits daily activities)
4. Aggravated by walking stairs or similar routine physical activity
B. During headache at least one of the two following symptoms occur:
1. Phonophobia and photophobia
2. Nausea and/or vomiting
Migraine with aura
A. At least two attacks fulfilling with at least three of the following:
1. One or more fully reversible aura symptoms indicating focal cerebral cortical and/or brain stem functions
2. At least one aura symptom develops gradually over more than four minutes, or two or more symptoms occur in succession
3. No aura symptom lasts more than 60 minutes; if more than one aura symptom is present, accepted duration is proportionally increased
4. Headache follows aura with free interval of at least 60 minutes (it may also simultaneously begin with the aura)
B. At least one of the following aura features establishes a diagnosis of migraine with typical aura:
1. Homonymous visual disturbance
2. Unilateral paresthesias and/or numbness
3. Unilateral weakness
4. Aphasia or unclassifiable speech difficulty
Headaches are complex problems and there is no easy solution.
It is best to find out the source/cause of your recurrent or chronic headaches.
Avoid bright lights and prolonged computer use.
If you are having recurrent or chronic headaches you need to see a health care provider. They can pick the proper abortive medication for the acute headache and possibly prescribe a preventive medication if your headaches are too frequent.
If you feel you need to see a doctor, go to the following site prior to your visit:
www.headaches.org
In the consumer area, see the educational resources tab.
Print and fill out the headache diary as shown.
See the How to talk to your headache doctor page.
I also recommend the pages on analgesic rebound, and diet.
Do not take Imitrex of any one else’s migraine medication without a health care provider’s approval.
I have seen patients with severe hypertensive crisis bordering stroke and cardiac problems due to taking a medication which was inappropriate for them. Also there are some types of migraine which are not recommended for the new migraine wonder drugs, ie. Hemiplegic and basilar artery migraines.
There are many non medication methods which are beneficial also, such as biofeedback, and acupuncture.
Seek the assistance of your primary care clinic and if no improvement a specialist in headaches.
I urge you not to start with homeopathic treatments, most are unproven, and as the person above stated he had suffered with migraines for 35 years, studies have proved that migraines are generally cyclic and people will stop having them as they age or cycle out of the issue. His cure may have had nothing to do with drinking fruit juice. Also make sure there is no organic cause for your symptoms with a physical examination by a qualified provider before seeing a homepath or naturopath. You may or may not realize that in the US many naturopaths receive their degrees by correspondence.
As a fellow migraine sufferer, I wish you the best.

Certainly stress and other factors can contribute to migrane headaches. Poor sleep habits are another cause. This may be a direct result of what's causing the stress, so a chain-reaction is in effect. Blood vessels constricting in your brain may cause the pain, but what triggers that? Incidentally, a cool rag, or even (if you're brave enough), running cold water (not ice cold!) over your head may help alleviate the pain without medication. Try to keep from eating or drinking (especially alcohol) after 7pm. Take a warm bath before going to bed. Read a book or some other activity that is peaceful to you. Try to avoid watching television, especially violence, before going to bed. And, it's true, masturbation is known to be a good way of relaxing your body in preparation for a good night's rest. The most important thing is to get the amount of your sleep that your body needs. How can you tell what your body needs? The best solution to that is to take a vacation. Seriously. Go to bed at the same time every night. Try to make it near the time you normally go to bed. Use room darkening shades, or wear a mask and sleep in! It may take a few days to 'get into the groove', but eventually you will find that your body will sleep for 8-9 hours (some people sleep less). Then, keep up that habit. If you find that you need 9 hours of sleep, then go to bed early enough that you get 9 hours of sleep each night - and that includes weekend. Keep bedtime the same throughout the week.

A migraine headache is a throbbing or pulsating headache that is often one sided (unilateral) and associated with nausea; vomiting; sensitivity to light, sound, and smells; sleep disruption; and depression. Attacks are often recurrent and tend to become less severe as the migraine sufferer ages.
Any tablet will give you temporary relief. Homoeopathy cures permanently since it is based on the constitution of the patient and the doctor tries to go to the root cause of it. I have been suffering from right sided migrain for more than 35 years. I got it cured by drinking a herbal fruit juice within one month. Since last two years I did not have any migraine attack.

Migraine is a more severe form of headache which is usually associated with vomiting, irritation to light and sound , leaves the patient unable to engage in any activities for a while and recurs.
See a doctor who after listening to your syptoms will tell u if u have migraine. There are different types of migraine. Medications are available for treatment of the episode and also for migraine prevention in those who have frequent episodes.

Only a doctor can confirm whether your head ache is maigraine or some other problem. Now a days, migraine can be cured in most of the cases or atleast can be reduced to a large extent. If your head ache appears on specific timings and specific part of head then chances of maigraine are not ruled out but doctor needs to confirm this. The head ache could be due to trouble with your eyes not getting adjusted to sun glare or may be blood pressure problem. Please see a good doctor.

When you starve or in the sun? Sounds like a dehydration issues more than a migraine.
I suffer from migraines and weird things trigger migraines. My migraines blur my vision, cause me to get naseous and am terribly light and sound sensitive, including vomitting from lights or noise. Yes my doctor has medications for me, but primarily, getting to a quiet dark area and getting some sleep is the #1 fix.
Sounds like to me you need to eat and get some water in you and your body will remedy the headache.

Migraine is caused due to hyperactive liver which inflames the nerves badly and nerve pain is very bad.
Pain killers don't cure the pain but you loose the sense of pain and in the meantime body itself cures sometimes.
There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, WORRY, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drugs,
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.
If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.

it's a lot more painful than a regular headache, which is usually an annoying, but tolerable pain. migrains will affect your overall productivity. you will experience sensitivity to light and sometimes nausea. it helps to lay down in a dark and quiet room.

Hi there !
"Some may say so many things" ! Relaaaxxx about it....okay ?
Think about the headache ...analyse it ...!
1. any precipitating factors ?
2. any factors helping in reducing it
including simple analgesics like panadol or crocin ?
3. unilateral or bilateral ? (migrane is unilateral in majority of cases)
4. any family history ?
5. associated with any specific aura, numbness , difficulty in speech etc etc ?
6. lasts for how many minutes/hours/days ?
If you are getting relieved by simple analgesics, "relax about it" and as far as possible, dont expose yourself to
pre-disposing factors.......thats it....! dont call it by complicated fashion names like "migrane"......okay ...it will upset our mind itself... ? dont you agree with me....? if not getting relief with routine medications, get the opinion from your family doctor..okay ?
best wishes !
