Okay so I live in the united states and have my whole life.
I have alot of online friends who i talk to daily and most live in australia
and the UK, and there instead of saying color, they say colour or instead of saying
poser they say poseur etc.. whatever. Anyways.. I have picked it up
and i have a habit of writing colour, favour etc.. whatever. My teachers
they call it a spelling mistake, though I can't help it! i have tried explaining but
they just laugh at me. I have tried to remeber to only write color or favor but
i just cant break the habit. what can I do??

Your teacher can't just let you write it that way, she has to treat all the kids the same. I live in Australia and if we wrote "color" it would be marked wrong even though most books here are American! It can't be helped but by the teaching showing you you have made a mistake, over time it will help you to break the habbit. When writing to your friends you should still write the words your own way. They will still know what you are saying!

Writing and spelling are conscious actions. You are using the British forms in order to distinguish yourself and brag a little that you have constant access to an alternative to mundane American spelling.
I know you are doing this not out of habit but out of desire.
If your teachers mark it as a misspelling, you can either spell it as they want it or continue to be "unique" amongst the other Americans by choosing British spellings.
I don't buy your "habit" excuse and I'd mark your paper wrong, too!

You have spent your "whole life" (or at least that portion of it after you learned to spell) spelling these words in American English so it had to take effort to start spelling them differently. You developed the "habit" on purpose. You can just as easily make an effort to spell the words as your teachers require.

There should be a rule that says either colour or color is correct. Splitting hair is a waste of time.

I suggest getting a copy of the Oxford dictionary (there may be one in your school library - its that big room with books that most students never use ;-) - and using it to show your teacher that this is the acceptable English spelling.

I really dont know what you can do about that but these teachers (as you used the term loosely lol) are ridiculous. If they learned anything in school especially studying english they would know this is actually english and the americanized junk that we write.

First you have to understand teachers are not very smart in international etiquette. They only know what their degree teach them. Heck, even though America is trying to convert to the metric system, you say it 26 Degrees (Celsius) outside they will laugh at you not realizing you mean 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Here my example. Went to Canada in late spring, really great people up that way. I walk into a gas station to pay for gas. The man say; "Man it hot today, supposed to get up to 30 degrees in the shade. Because I was intelligent in the ways of international talk, I said; "Heck, that nothing, where I come from it was 80 degrees in the shade"! Everyone got quite and look at me. Then the man think and say; "You from America"! LOL! Everyone laughed. But, He knew, unlike our teachers.
You just have to lower yourself to the intellectual ability of your teachers and try to speak in their language, most of them not even know the words you use are the etymological foundation of our words. Just try to think in their language, it all they know.
