All animals can think. The difference between what a human thinks and what an animal thinks is not as easy as you might at first think. I think of it as creative thought. Only a human has the ability to think thoughts not directly related to their survival whereas every thought that an animal has is either instinct based or is solely concerned with survival.
As for original thought...you mean the first thought to have been thunked by a creature that was not related to survival...it could have been anything. It could very well have been religion based or something that would later become religion. Maybe the grief inspired by the death of a loved one triggered the first creative thought and this eventually became religion.

Chaos theory. We all have different expreriences, which leads to an almost infinite number possible responses based on their combinations with external stimulus. Conformatism is a natural counter-measure to chaos, which prevents social disorder. Its purely a pack instict that makes us agree or disagree with anyone who labels themselves a particular way, but we also have our own thoughts based on our own experiences.

I am sorry to have to tell you this, but there has not been an original thought for ever so long. There have been transformed thoughts, and sometimes strange thoughts, but nothing new. Nope, nothing at all. Maybe I'm jaded.

original thought is your mind body and souls intuition and usually the right thought...you can go round and round in your mind but the first thought 9 out of 10 times is the one that wins..

The route of original thought comes from God. Humankind are copycats and are not capable of original thought. They mix and mingle thoughts but the basis of the thought is not original with them.
