I lost my mother 16 yrs ago when I was 15yrs old. I know she was in prison in Mexico when she passed but never knew anything else. She was buried over there but thats all I know. I would like to know how to go about finding the cemetary where she was buried but I don't even know the name of it. Everything I search through the internet askes for money so I just give up. What do I do ? Who can help me ? I would like some closure . I haven't been with my mother since I was 12 and now that Im older I would like some answers. If there is anyone who can give me advice Im all ears.
Thanks

The easier way than all of these is to contact the International Red Cross via your local Red Cross office and ask for their assistance. It is one of the services they offer and it's free. Another organization that would be able to help you very quickly would be Amnesty International...also free. The fact that you were a minor and she was a prisoner makes it that much more important that you get closure. Were it me, I'd contact both organizations and ask them to find out what happened, where she's buried, and whether you could be allowed to visit her grave. Both of these organizations have full-time permanent employees who do this every single day, have access to all the court records, prison records, etc. that you'll have to get court orders to see in many cases, and they speak the language fluently. Let them try first before you try doing it yourself and find out how frustrating it can be.

the above page has resources for searching in Mexico. It includes (towards the bottom of the page) an email list for networking with others searching in the same topic.
Your best bet, I think, would be a death certificate. "Here" in the US, we tend to expect all research to be online. I think you will have to send for it, the old fashioned way.
Your comments suggest that there may be also court files that gave custody to another person? If that is true, I would also try to locate those files, and request info from that. You may have to petition for that.
A third option is whether mom had relatives, who may still be living. It is very possible that she maintained contact with them. Given what you say, it seems that the authorities in Mexico would have had to have some next of kin shown.
I am truly sorry for your loss, and hope you find some answers. Life isn't perfect... but it is still your mom. Hugs.

www.findagrave.com

it mainly deals with the United States but might just be a help.

Good luck and good hunting
