To be able to strongly disagree with an idea and to be able to deconstruct and expose its fault/shallowness or whatever without belittling the individual is an art. It's difficult, takes time, and requires more than habitual knee-jerking contempt. Some folks, however, enjoy being contemptuous. Sincere, intelligent disagreement and devastating debate makes us reconsider and re-think. Hostile, sneering contempt merely closes minds. The ability to sincerely entertain opposing ideas simultaneously while holding on to one's own requires discipline and intelligence. To do so with grace and charm requires genius.

Some beliefs are not only ridiculous, they are hurtful and dangerous and have caused untold misery to others. That would seem to me to be a legitimate reason for ridiculing people who hold such beliefs. So far, I have only ridiculed the beliefs and not the people who hold them (who I pity more than anything else) but I reserve the right to do it, should I think it appropriate to do so and I would defend the right of anyone to ridicule me and my beliefs equally, if they think they can.
Long live free speech, hey?

No, I only really ask religious questions when i am actually interested in either 1) What the answer is, or 2) what christians or any other organised religion would say.
I personally would never say what i ask as offensive, though i am sure there is someone out there that would. This may be because some people just live to cause arguement.
However, people who solely try to put down one religion in favour of their own, are worthless in my eyes. After all, there are hundreds of religions... Who can honestly say "Mine is 100% right. Follow it", because as far as i'm concerned, each one has just as much chance as the next.. What anyone else believes is just their own faith.

I am sorry if you feel this way but let us just respect their different views and opinions. I understand that others may just be mean spirited but what's important is that you are not like them. People easily get convinced if their faith is not that strong and if they opt to...but at the end of the day - its still their decision and not ours.

I couldnt agree more. I tend to reply back to the ones who offend my religion (islam) because I feel that they should be told at least. Maybe I am just wasting my time but I have never ridiculed anyone else's belief or lack of. I just wish people would do the same and stop throwing around baseless accusations.

Whilst I am of no faith, I have many contacts on here of differing faiths. There are many individuals however who have no tolerance, understanding or respect for tohers beliefs. I find it easy to ignore these bigots. My humble opinion is, I might be right, I might be wrong but all ways respect others for their convictions.

I agree with you.
Thanks for your input.
I have been told that I deserve to be ridiculed for my beliefs.
IS that not mean? I also think it is reprehensible to say, "Well, they deserve it because some Christians have bothered me and preached to me."
That's silly. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Belifs? No. Spelling? YES!
In all seriousness, challenging someones belief can be helpful. Ridiculing someones belief does very little good. However, the Bible is full of examples of prophets ridiculing the beliefs of idolaters.

I think it's mostly just troll behavior, people who need better ways to pass their time. It's not done to actually get people to change their faith, it's done to rile people up. When I see a question like that, I find it best to just avoid it.
