I have an outside altar, and I burn a candle inside a glass lantern on it, but because I am out at work all day, when I come home it has burned out, I then light another, but before I get up in the morning it too has burned out.

Simple use an oil burning lantern.... they last way way longer. The fuel does not run out as quick as a candle. Also if it is feasible for your purpose try using a pretty solar light, that will last even longer!!

Diane, the quality of the wax is very important for LONG burning candles. Rolled bees wax is too porous and light to last long at all. If you are going to use beeswax, then you need to melt and POUR a solid candle. Soemone mentioned ading styrene to the wax, do NOT do that as it will contaminate the organic intent behind the beeswax, rather, try using thinner wick material, so as to reduce the size of the flame and the temperature as well. this will prolong the life of the burning candle. Just don't make it TOO thin as it will not have enogh heat to keep a pool of melted wax to continue it burning. additionally, if direct sunlight is able to reahthe candle it will cause more wax to melt and burn than if it is kept shaded al day from the sun. Also, if the glass wind protection is too near the candle that too will retain heat causing pre-melting to some degree. Try using a larger glass globe. Hope these hints will help a bit.

*** sterene to your candles. and get a pillar mold. a 6 inch by 2 inch pillar candle with a high sterene content will burn for over 10 hours.
you can buy the sterene at any arts store.
a teaspoon per pound is more than enough...
note,
this will make the wax very hard and raise the burning temp.
because of this it often causes a very shiny but pitted surface . i usually whip some wax to dip tha candle in,,makes kind of a lumpy primative looking candle. to hide the pit marks.
do you try to keep the candle going 24/7? if so why?
