No, with just a week you can't prevent your period. If you get to the gyno sooner (I mean NOW) you can possibly delay your period, no guarantees though.
I've been on the Pill for years and I know exactly when to take it so that I'll aviod getting my period on certain days or events. Again, that's after years of finding out how my body reacts to the Pill.
Have you been with him before? If yes, then he's not going to care if you're on your period or not. If you haven't been with him then consider waiting because you don't want your first experience together to be when you have your period.
If you do have sex, make sure you use a condom because he will be EXTREMELY fertile. Yes, you can still get pregnant if you're on your period.

I'm so happy to hear that your bf will be coming home from Iraq!
Yes, there is a way to stop your period. Ask your doctor who prescribes the birth control medication which pills you can take that will prevent you from starting your period at that time. I believe it is the regular colored pills as opposed to the colored ones, but I'm not sure because it has been so long since I have used birth control pills. Don't be embarassed by asking your doctor. He/she will completely understand and I'm sure that they have been asked this question a million times.
Even if you do have your period at the time--which I'm sure you are aware--you can still have sex. Actually some men like it when a woman is having her period during sex.
Good luck, and have fun! It's nice to know that people still do think about birth control! = )

OK now my husband is in the military to so I completely understand. Usually the doctor will tell you to start takin b/c when u r on your period not brfore or after and then it wont be effective until a week or two later so as for preventin ur period nope it wont happen. Now I dont know how u feel about this but u guys could jus do it while ur on ur period and if he is uncomfortable use a condom it is pretty much the same as u bein wet sooooooooooooo those r ur options do it or dont do it even if u take the pill u will still get ur period when it is due.

I want to begin by saying I'm not a doctor and they are the only ones who would know the absolute answer to this question, but my girlfriend was told it takes about one month for birth control to take "effect". Because you will already be in the middle of a menstrual cycle, I doubt that an extra week of being on the pill will effect anything.
However, you should consult your doctor as soon as possible and explain your situation. They will be able to answer your question more clearly. Doctors hear questions that are a lot more embarrasing than that, trust me!

Talk to your doctor about the whole situation when you go in for your pelvic. Doctor's are people too and I'm sure that he/she will understand why you don't want to be having your period when your BF comes home. Your doctor will probably have several options for you.

No because it takes a while for the pill to get into your system and to start having any effect on ur body. Why not just make love to your man? nothing wrong with ur guy earning his "red wings"

It seriously depends on you. For me, the pill made me bleed for a few months before my cycle got normal. I'd ask your doc about it.
