You don't covert to atheism - you reach a conclusion and find yourself in the place where you know invisible guys in the sky do not exist.
The space once occupied by gods is not empty space - the space no longer exists.
Religion was always a scam carried out by those who didn't want to get a real job and let's face it, there's a really good living to be made from religion IF you can keep a straight face.

Let me tell you something. I used to be the same way as you. I used to pray and pray and pray and I got nothing. No sign of him, just nothing. It was like that all the way up until I was 19. I was in my first year of college, halfway across the country from my home. Things were not going well for me at all. I got involved in the wrong crowd and I really screwed things up for myself. One night, I just broke down crying. I had never felt so depressed in all my life, and nothing could calm me down. My friends tried comforting me, my parents even offered to fly over to my school to come see me, but nothing seemed to work. My life felt hopeless. I had somewhat stopped believing in God when I was about 15 or 16. I never offically stopped, I just didn't really think about it I guess. But one night, I was in the worst pain I had ever been in, and couldn't find comfort in anything, so I just started praying. I only started praying cuz I was desperate, but just about an hour after I started praying, I suddenly started to feel better. I was able to stop crying, and my feelings of despair seemed to ease up a little bit. The next morning, I was still upset, but I felt a lot better in some ways. After that, things eventually started to work out and got better. God helped me. He helped me get away from the bad choices I made and on the right path again. God will help you and answer you when you truly need him. If he thinks you can get through something on your own, then he will let you. My advice to you is to do what you think is best for you, but remember, there is no harm in believing in him. Yeah, if you become an atheist you will be able to join the others and make fun of christians and bash God, but that's all you will gain. Deciding not to believe in God won't make your life much better. There really is no point to stop believing in him, because it won't change your life that much, unless you base your whole life around your religion....that's just something to think about. Just live your life. You can sin, and still believe. He will forgive you.

Do what feels best to you.

I grew up in Christian non-denominational school, then Catholic school, Episcopalian church, Southern Baptist bible school every summer, Amish neighbors, Jewish friends, Pentecostal classmates, Methodist best friend, Quaker college roommate, and I formally studied Eastern Religions (Hinduism, Budhism, Sikhism, Shintoism) in college, and personally studied tribal religions/rites from around the world.

It was a long process, but I became a firm Atheist about 15 years ago (I am 28 yrs old now) and am comfortable and confident in my beliefs. Whatever beliefs make you confident and secure are yours and no one should try to change them, as you should try to change no one's.

What works for you is what you should do.You won't find that many real Atheists trying to "convert" you to Atheism. There is a reason for that.We think for ourselves. So, think for yourself and you decide which path makes sense to you.

I don't think you can really convert to atheism. :)

But if you are comfortable with there being no god, then you may be an atheist.

You are (of course) free to believe whatever you would like to but:

all things denote there is a God.
all things bear witness that there is a God.

The truth is that God does exist...if you are after the truth.
