Do you think there is a correlation between IQ and religious belief?

I was reading somewhere that, statistically, people with a higher IQ are less likely to have as much religious faith as those with a lower IQ.What do you think?Does having a higher level of intelligence coincide with disbelief?At least on average?

For instance, a person with an average to low level of intelligence who sees something they can't explain might think it's a miracle and leave it at that while someone with a higher level of intelligence sees the same thing and can and will scientifically examine it, find the cause for it, and then explain it.

Also, from a religious stance, a person is less likely to question what their religion tells them.Whereas someone without belief in religion is more likely to question everything in order to arrive at a conclusion rather then just the stated one.

Of course; only a gullible fool would believe the things 'they' trot out as miracles.

Realists know they are nothing more than hyped up parlour tricks that have been exaggerated over the years to make the 'magician' more god like.

One would have to pose the question: who compiled and put into action the Intelligence Quotient test? I don't think it was a Christian. So do you think there is any bias to your question, using this initial premise? There may be genius carpenters out there...genius philosophers, whereas a Mensa type person couldn't fix his own plumbing and thinks contractors are fools, and therefore takes 3 months longer to pay than the regular reasonable folk, and obviously looks down on you like you are an idiot to make him pay just as much as a regular joe. Geniuses are major life fuckups. I've met one or two and they couldn't tie their shoelaces to help themselves.

Your first assertion, "people with a higher IQ are less likely to have as much religious faith as those with a lower IQ" cannot be backed by the data. There are people who are highly intelligent and highly religious.

The data do back the trend.

I've read that too. But I'm thinking that we should separate the truly religious from fundamentalists, who are, in my opinion, not truly religious, certainly not Christian. They are cultists, fixated, rigid, brainwashed, unable to go beyond dogma and a cut-and-paste understanding of faith and deity and even the teachings of their god, Jesus. Most of these chaps were home-schooled, have never been very far away from small godforsaken towns in the middle of nowhere, and afraid of such normal things as sex, adventure, exploration, a life outside of their cult. Christians that I know are learned, devout but not rigid, and ready and eager to answer questions related to the absurdities in the Holy Bible--an altogether better kind of folks.

I think there are probably just as many low IQ believers as atheists, and as many high IQ believers as atheists. I don't think there is any correlation.

I think your hypothesis is flawed - because you are not providing source material, therefore you are basing it on your personal beliefs, and those may be biased...seem to be anyway.
