Use lobelia tincture..take about 10-20 drops and if it does not help in a few minutes, rub some into the cramp..this nearly always works for me for those painful muscle cramps. Lobelia is an excellent antispasmodic herb..
Use a brand like herbdoc.com's or herbpharb or one that is organic or wild crafted and use a tincture not a capsule. A tincture is a liquid extract ad comes in a brown bottle with an eyedropper top. will put in a link for you..get online or somewhere like natural foods, wild oats, or a local health food store or coop.
I have never had lobelia fail me..google it with charlie horse and see. If orally does not work, rub it directly into the painful cram and it will soon stop hurting

I get lots of charlie horses, this is a question close to my heart! I've had them long, short, in just a toe, or my entire body. The potassium in bananas is very effective in preventing them. When one starts -usually while I'm asleep- it wakes me up, and I react by trying to pull my muscle in the opposite direction. Sometimes it works, but the bigger ones it doesn't help. If I can sit up, then I use body lotion on the spot to rub it. It's more to distract myself from the pain than to loosen the charlie horse, but I think it helps, at least a little.

Probably you are stressed or you are having problems with your muscles.
It may be due to a bad movement or due to an effort that you made.
When this kind of cramp occurs, you need to take care of it. and it's very important to know where you have the pain, because is not the same if its in the chest or in your leg.
Mean while, you can take some pills like a muscle relaxer.

When I get them in my leg I get up and walk around. To prevent charlie horses you should take a magnesium/calcium/zinc supplement.

I use an acupressure technique. Pinch the middle of your lower lip with your thumb and forefinger. You have to pinch kind of hard, almost to the point of pain, but it alleviates the cramp within seconds.

I wake up with them in my calf and the only remedy is a cold tile floor to stand on. My grandmother told me this years ago and I was shocked when it worked!!

I usually just try to massage it away... and it works. but i learned in massage school that u should compress down and in from the back of the knee and ankle to the middle and that is suppose to relax the muscle
