The best answer, of course, will come from the dentist performing the root canal. For tonight sake, I've seen a nine year old go in and out without complaint. Painless. Good luck.

I think it differs with different people and their pain tolerance. I have had a few root canals done when I was younger and it wasn't too painful. You won't be able to eat on that side for a day or so and it's nothing a panadol can't take care of.
As for being able to drive home- it depends on how much anaesthetics you are given. I had a surgery [wisdom teeth taken out] and I refused to take anything but local anaesthetics and once I was done the DDS said I was good to drive home! I would not recomment it if you think you'll feel queasy or light-headed afterwards though.
Best of luck and don't worry too much!

You will be fine to drive yourself home. Root canals are not as painful as they use to be in the past. They are going to get you numb before they start the procedure so you will not feel anything. I had a root canal done when I was 16 years old and I had no pain after the numbing was gone and I also drove myself home. When the nerve of the tooth gets infected the tooth will hurt really bad so when you have the nerve removed your tooth will feel so much better.

No, it does not hurt. Yes, you can drive yourself home. You will recover the same day. within hours. It will take maybe 30 minutes to get it done, more or less. If you don't have dental insurance, it may hurt your wallet. You will be fine Don't worry..
