Yahoo news.

No duh. When you play soccer you run and kick and stuff. When you jog you just run. What numb nuts started this research? Thats like saying, "Hmmm running uphill burns more fat then sitting on the couch"

lol!

I laughed when I saw that on Yahoo. Imagine that high intensity exercise burns more fat than moderate intensity exercise who would have thought that!

we've known this in the fitness industry for about the past 30 years...

Actually, it's not the "kicking and stuff." It's the fact that in soccer, you have to change directions real fast going back and forth plus stopping and starting again. Same as in hockey. I feel more winded playing hockey than I would ever feel than just jogging although technically the movements aren't that different -- just moving the legs. But the back and forth is the reason there are shift changes, you can get tired real fast out there.

It is the same reason that it is better to do wind sprints then jogging, soccer you have short powerful sprints, and then you stop for a time which is better as your body has to adjust multiple times while with jogging your body can get used to it and you wont feel the burn as much.

Playing soccer burns more fat than jogging only if it's one on one though.

OK.... Firstly, fats gets burned to become your body's energy when exercising.
So when you jog, it depends how far and fast you run which will give you an idea of how much energy in your body will burn
As for soccer, again, it depends how much you run, jump, etc. which will burn your body's energy.

In short, playing or doing different sports have different pace of your energy getting burn, thus, it depends how much energy you used.

This is not a question. It's a rant which is in violation of Yahoo Answers posting rules. Edit to include an answer.
