Starting to date? or wanting to find a mate? or starting to mature? decide what you want first.
Maybe you best find a really good friend online. Find people who match your morals and interests in life. Learn to be honest and straightforward and understand that confidence comes along with practice in being that.
If you share your thoughts then you share your unique self. Don't try to make another happy - be honest with yourself first then you will reflect that in your friendships/relationships in life.
Furthermore you don't have to admit anything to anyone. Everytime you meet someone it is always the beginning of something that follows if you are true to you first. Don't try to measure up to anyone's standards - meet your own. There is strength in that. Use expression (words) not impression and you get what you deserve.
Life is a journey and if it was perfect hey there would be nothing to learn - boring! take control of you :) believe me I know! much experience - much learned and I'm up for friends to talk life!

Is there a reason why you have to explain the number of friends you have?
And there isn't anything shameful about being shy, if you do feel like you have to justify the number your of friends. It shouldn't make any difference.

Well, they are going to figure it out sooner or later! The world needs shy people like us too, so don't be so embarrased about it. Unfortunately, easy emabarassment usually goes hand in hand with being shy, so... just tell it like you told it to all of us!
