i have a recipe and i want to know if i can use some thing else other than vegetable shortening??? maybe some thing a little more healthy?

It depends upon the recipe...If it's being baked, you can probably use the same amount of butter or margarine, but they're not particularly healthy in large doses either. If it's for deep fat frying, see if you can adjust the recipe to bake it or use peanut oil. Some baked recipes can be adapted to use applesauce instead of the shortening or butter.

You didn't say what the recipe was for, so I can't offer better advice than I have.

not knowing what what type of recipe youre using but if its anything like borwnies, cakes or cookies then try using applesauce ..i have used it when baking and it seems to make the product a lil moister when using applesauce and you cant taste it so that will be your lil secret!!!! works in muffins also!!!! try the applesauce w/ cinn and other add ins when making muffins puts a new twist on flavor!!! bake away and enjoy

Yes, use lard. It isn't really a "health food" but it is better for everything. Pie crusts will be flakier, deep-fried foods will be more crisp and delectable. Just do your arteries a favor and don't use it very often.

You can simply use a non-hydrogenated shortening. spectrum and Earth Balance both make good ones.
