They don't require you to take them out to go to the bathroom, so they can be left longer than a dog. They pretty much keep to themselves, so no constant attention required. They are playful and will chase moths and other bugs if they get in the house. If you are getting one, they don't need a companion cat, like a dog requires a companion.
Avoid Calicos though. Our vet said they have can be very lovable, but they are the only kind that has been found to have an antisocial or personality disorder.

1) They are life-long friends who always make you happy even if they're naughty kitties.
2) They're warm and fuzzy and cute!
3) They make you laugh with all the crazy stuff they come up with!
I've had cats ALL my life - probably, totaling the amount of time I've been without a pet cat is a mere few months. I was born having cats in the family and currently have three at around 10 years old now. I will have cats until the day I die. :)
And imthemeek is sort of right about calico cats. I knew one who was extremely lovable (she may have been an exception, then), but of the three I have one is a calico and she is extremely fearful of everything and everyone (even family members) and is a loner -- I see the other two way more often.

1. They do not have to be taken for walks on a leash.
2. They talk to you.
3. They like to cuddle.
4. Housetraining is easier for a cat than a dog because of the litterbox.
5. They don't take up all of the couch when they lay with you watching TV.
6. They don't require so much attention when they are adults because "they are adults" and will not always be as needy as a dog can be (dog lovers don't get mad, I have my dog as well, but you know they are different)
7. They are just purrfect.
Just remember that you are getting a live animal that will require care and love. Not a toy that when you get tired out it you can forget. A pet is a commitment for the animals lifetime. So please sure that you know what you are asking for.

Before you buy a cat, you and your dad need to go down to your local Animal Regulation (The Pound). There are dozens of wonderful kittens and cats waiting for you, all waiting for a good home where they can love a nice child and their parents.
Be sure you understand that you need to give your cat fresh
food and water in clean dishes every day, and scoop out the cat box daily, too.
And please remember, animals are playmates, not playthings.
They need good care, gentleness, kindness and love.
In return, they will love you forever.
OK, here are three good things about having a cat:
1) Cats don't need to be walked. They readily use a litter box.
2) Cats don't need to be bathed or sent to a groomer, as they groom themselves all the time.
3) Cats, with proper care live to be over 20 years old.
Good luck.

They help with the mice and rat plague. Give you attention and love unconditionally. Are easy to train to go to the toilet outside. Keep ur feet warm at night, thats if they are allowed in side. Down fall of having a cat are they can bring native wild life home. Like to poop in your garden. Can leave fur every where. Need a lot of TLC. Depending on your area some cats arnt allowed to roam the streets and must be kept inside. Which can be hard as you then have to watch their diet take them out for exercise.
But another good thing about them that I had forgotton about is if trained early enough you can teach them to lead like a dog, and then you can take them for walks. they do make great pets I have 3 and love them to bits.

Ignore the comment about Calicos---just like any other cat they can be very loving and will seek out human companionship.
Now, for your 3 good things about having a cat:
1) They're easy to care for
2) 1 cat + catnip = hours of entertainment
And the best reason to have a cat:
3) Companionship

you only need three i can give you more than that.first cats are pretty easy to take care of their solitairy creatures so they dont need you to be around 24/7 they dont need to be taken for walks twice a day the cat food is cheeper than dog food.they can be very affectionate and loyal just like a dog.poop is contained in one specific area the litter box and cats dont dig up your back yard their quieter if your concerned about scratching they have soft paws out now that prevent that also double sided sticky tape cat toys are much cheaper to get your hands on also vaccinations spaying and nuetering are cheaper.(just in case your dads a cheapskate)cats can be trained like dogs to due tricks i.e. my girl plays fetch and comes to the car when it starts for car rides.they can also be toilet trained can you say that about a dog let me know if you need more rebuttles

-If you have a good one they are great companions.
-You can go on vacation for a week and leave food and
water..with no expensive kennel fees.
-They don't stink as much as dogs...well there is the litter box
which you must scoop everyday, and keep as far away from
you and other people as possible. Mine is in the garage
and doesn't stink at all!
-If you get a bad one...and believe me there are some bad
ones. You can just throw them outside and they can live a
happy outdoor life.
-Spaying and Neutering is a must!!! Calms them down and
generally makes them a better pet!

With the two I have, man! 1) They drive me nuts, when I'd rather not be sane 2) One of them doesn't groan when he gets dry food in the morning 3) My female cat tolerates all the crud my son gives her, like making her be held by him, and kissing, even though anyone can tell she hates it. That's about all I can think of for my two cats. I've had cats throughout my whole life, and none of them have twisted, and turned me around like these two!

whats NOT good anout cats? studies show people with pets are healthier overall and live longer! you can have them in or outside... (i prefer to keep mine inside) they keep mouse population down if you live in a rural area.. they are cuddly and playful, sweet, cute.. they definately have very individual personalities... they are easy to take care of... just make sure to keep their litter box clean and food and water out for them
they are very independant... you dont have to take them out to go to the bathroom, you dont have to bathe them, they dont bark! They dont take up too much room.. they snuggle with you and purr and show you they love you. Some cats are content just being around people while others like a playmate. I had my cat for almost a year before we got another... he likes having a playmate and it shows.. he isnt as rebellious.. doesnt seem to be upset all the time and is overall better behaved. I wouldnt trade in my kitty :)
