Wouldn't you find Islam to be not very...compatible with us?

I've always viewed us as a progressive, free-minded people. Islam is strictly conservative in many cases, and this is reflected through some of those who practice it (that old dog Khomeini not being the least of them).

I've never considered Islam to suit us and our cultural "mindset", if you will. But what do you think?

Sorry for intruding into your post ... I have an Iranian friend, who saw people in Iran murdered and flogged for "crimes" against Islam (according to the Mullahs). My Persian friend, Hamid, went on to explain to me that a 2 thousand year old religion, is not compatible with today's modern society.
I learned quite a lot about Iran and its cities, people and religion. The Iranian people are very well educated (a lot better than us over here), and Tehran has a population of 39 million people with 42 million, on a typical working day.
You Persians here, in North America will be great contributors to our countries - WELCOME !!!
