This nation has a Christian majority... That does not translate to a Christian nation. Christians don't own the U.S., it wasn't even founded on Christian principles like many Christian liars... err... leaders would lead you to believe. A great deal of our founding fathers were Deists, and Atheists. Yes, there were Christians there too but guess what! They all agreed that the U.S. should be a secular nation... why oh why would they do that you ask? Three words will answer that question: Freedom Of Religion!
This country was founded on many wonderful liberties, one of which is the freedom to practice any religion at all you want (or none at all) as long as said religion doesn't break the law. The U.S. Government is barred from endorsing or favoring any religious philosophy by the constitution to protect this freedom.
So to all of you Christians out there that have convinced yourselves that this is a Christian nation... i suggest you go back to elementary school and learn your history. At the very least read a history book, a real history book.

Because Politicians know that, by pandering to the Christian Fundies, they have powerful, rabid backers. It is true that there are more Christians in America than other religions, but that doesn't mean that this is a Christian country or that laws should be based on Christian morals. This country was founded on the idea of freedom and equality for ALL, and not just Christians.

I submit that most politicians are just that politicians. Most will say or do anything to secure a vote. I don't know of any Atheist that feels he doesn't have an equal voice in this Country. Do you claim that Christians have a more than a equal voice? If you do, I suggest you reassess your situation and read our Country's Constitution.

I don't claim to have an equal voice with the Christian majority. I think that if someone doesn't start standing up to the political Christians, the US will become an *official* Christian state.

Really evangelicals? So the Senators that keep getting caught breaking the law are evangelical Christians?
No wonder I swore off the bs years ago.
Yes, most politicians are "declared" Christians but that is because money is what gets you elected and the big fat corporate machines are more than happy to keep the public fighting over gay rights and abortion, rather than paying attention to their theft of the American dream in the name of larger salaries for themselves.

try reading Article 11 of the 1796 Treaty with Tripoli.
Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

One for one it's equal. Unfortunately it's closer to 8 to 1 against. Strangely, England has more atheists than Christians. Do you think that's the real reason the U.S. fought for independence?

Saying you are an atheist means that you don't believe in a God.
I see no difference between a man who says that Allah and God are the same and an atheist.
Their voices are equally opposed to God.

Welcome to sloppy thinking. I see you've visited before.
You're trying to confuse the issue by combining two different concepts. America is a predominantly Christian nation by demographics. This is a simple fact, and no one argues with it.
America was not, however, founded with a state religion. The founding fathers varied widely in their religious views, but most of them agreed that the country should be founded in deist and Enlightenment thinking and NOT in Christian (or any other religious) philosophy. This is why the Constitution specifically prohibits the establishment of a state religion, and why this country, despite being demographically mostly Christian, is not a "Christian nation."
