Don't kill them! You would murder innocent animals for merely running along your roof? Good God. If worst comes to worst, you can call the local animal control officers in your area and have them come out, trap the cats, and take them away. You likely have some feral cats in your neighborhood. What's attracting them? You can also do things like put strips of aluminum foil or 2-sided tape all over your roof; they won't like that, and that might discourage them from running on your roof. Or go out and spray them with a water bottle (NOT the garden hose). They'll get the idea.
Ever consider adopting them? You come across as angry and heartless in your post, but the fact that you posted this question in this forum instead of just going out there and doing something horrible tells me that there's hope for you.
Edit: I meant to downrate this post, but misfired and gave it a plus rating instead:
>>Humane Solution: Contact local Animal Control and request that they set up traps around the house and yard.
Inhumane Solution: Sprinkle tons of M&Ms or small chocolate candies around your house so they eat chocolate and die.
Basic Solution: Watch for them and spray them with the garden hose until they are too scared to come back.
Don't do the chocolate, it's absolutely inhumane and just plain wrong. You're essentially poisoning them, and they will die a long and miserable death. And spraying them with the garden hose will knock them off the roof and onto the ground, possibly injuring or killing them. The HavAHeart traps are good.

It's probably not cats if all you hear is running on the roof. Do you hear any cats up there crying or meowing? If not, it's almost definitely not cats since they tend to "talk" when they're out in groups. They get in fights and the males will make an awful fuss to get the females.
Squirrels will run on the roof, so will other animals. Do you have trees that overhang the roof? This is probably how the animals are getting up there. Consider trimming the tree in order to remove their access to the roof. Eliminate any temptations in your yard. Sprinkle amonia on your trash cans if you keep them outside. Don't store your grill outside if you can help it--the smell of the grease on the grill will attract animals. Toss some mothballs around the bushes and landscaping; most animals hate the scent. You'll need to replace the amonia and moth balls frequently since they won't last long outside.

Are you sure it's cats? I've had a million squirrels (or so it seems) on my roof. They are much noisier than cats. Squirrels can't retract their claws. Cats do and once on a stable surface, just pad around. If it really is cats, then maybe you should look for the reason they are up there. They'll go to where the food is. Are gutters clogged? Opening to an attic? Mice in said opening to attic? Remove the source and they will go away....any critter...they're there for the food or the shelter.

do not kill the cat. Not only is it wrong, but it is also a felony animal cruelty charge in most states. If you have animal control call them. Or you can use a live trap with a can of food to catch the cat. Then take it to your local shelter. Some rescue groups will even come and set one for you.

I have never ever heard of cats going on anyone's roof unless they were hunting for prey up there, like maybe rats.
By all means have Animal Control come out and set traps, but once the cats are gone, how will you get rid of the rats?

First of all, please DON'T kill them. They don't know any better. You can do a few things to keep them away. The best thing to do is HUMANE trapping. You can buy a Have a Heart trap, and as you catch them you can take them to your local shelter. The other way is to contact your local humane society and see if they have a trap and release program. They may come out and get the cats for you.

Can't kill them. Contact your local animal control, and they should be able to come out and trap the cats. If you think they're owned by neighbors, talk to them about possibly keeping the cats indoors during the night.

Are you sure it's not squirrels? We have squirrels who do it and it sounds like a herd of horses up there.
There would need to be a reason a cat would be on the roof--do you have food there? Is it connecting two fenced in areas? Why are they up there?
