Well, as an enlisted man you will have to become a Master Chief Petty Officer with at least ten years of service. As an officer you will have to reach the rank of Lieutenant and have at least three years of service.
But, I'm a retired officer with 13 years of enlisted service under my belt before I received my commission. And I want to be perfectly frank with you. If pay is your chief focus, don't join. I ran across enough martinets and sundowners in my career to realize that money is the least important reason to serve in my Navy.

4000 a month!! HAHAHA. Already the wrong choice for you. Don't expect to make that for a really long time. Maybe a little faster if you are an officer. Go to college first than make this big decision. If you are still interested the test is simple. Basic subjects at about a 9th grade level.

Don't join the military for money. Join for pride, join to support your country, join because you're a strong individual who can contribute to our armed forces. If you join for money, you won't last long. The military is for the passionate, the strong-willed, the ones who want to make a difference, the ones who want to defend our great country. The ones who join for money disgust me.

Forget the Navy...join the Marines. If you are enlisted in the sailor boys, you have to take tests and hope their is an opening for the next slot and rank in your specialty. In the Corps, you go to the field , earn your stripes being a bad ***, and have better chance of tax free pay in a combat/hostile fire zone. Plus you get a bonus from killing terrorists !
