I was diagnosed with Lupus SLE and Cerebritus. They recently added on to the Lupus SLE diagnosis is Cancer of the Brain.I have 5 tumors on the brain. I also exhibit Epileptic seizures and have DVT's with Arthritis. Your friend is on a journey of discovery and awareness, She will find out many things that may be frightening to hear at times and also new to even the doctors and public ( like myself). I never heard of Lupus with cancer before but it is real because I am proof and so aren't a lot of others. I would have your friend get in touch with the local Lupus foundation organization in her state. Mine is www.lfaga.org. Call them and go to a support meeting. Knowledge is power. The more you and her know the better she will be able to deal with the down days. Trust me, there are a lot. Just keep telling her she matters and you are there. I would also start gathering a support team of friends, relatives. neighbors etc,,, to check in and see how she is doing and keep her spirits up. The medicines are tough so having help is key.The pain can be wrenching to almost blinding sometimes. You do learn to cope. There is no cure yet but send letters to your local senate leaders to push for Lupus research and medicine approval. There is a bill on the senate floor now that needs to be signed for Lupus. I wish the best for you and your friend. I hope this is helpful. If you need anything further just email me and I would be happy to help.

First Lupus is not cancer, it is an auto-immune disease.
It is not contagious.
People with Lupus can have a wide variety of symptoms, or go through periods of no symptoms at all.
She possibly won't know how she is feeling from one day to the next, depending on how she feels when she wakes up in the morning!
If she has been diagnosed since you last saw her, and you won't see her again for a few days, chances are she will look and feel no different when you see her next than she did when you last saw her, just a few weeks older!

Lupus and cancer are two different things. People with lupus can usually live a normal life span with proper medical management.
Cancer occurs when normal cells reproduce wildly and do not die when they are supposed to.
Lupus occurs when the immune systme mistakes the self for invaders like viruses, germs and cancer.
Lupus may be treated with cancer chemotherapies to suppress the immune system. But lupus is not cancer.

I am confused. Lupus is a disease of the immune system. Are you saying that she has cancer as a result of having lupus? I am sorry to hear about this. The one thing you have to do is be there for her. Even if you can't be there in person, a phone call or card will make a world of difference.
Give her this information and see if she is interested in trying a natural remedy. I wish the both of you the best and God's blessings be on you. You are in my prayers...

There are studies reporting that women with lupus have a heightened risk of developing abnormal PAP smears, and early changes that put them at risk for cervical cancer. Women with lupus should be investigated regularly for these cervical change, especially in the first five years following their lupus diagnosis. I have lupus and I have had cervical cancer. Lupus is not cure-able,but it is treatable.Taking proper care of herself and seeing the doctor regularly, your friend will live long....

Seems like you got a lot going on. Most drs would order an ultrasound with the pain you're having. It would be cheaper to invest in some condoms than pay for 1000 pregnancy tests.. I had extremely low vitamin levels because I never got in the sun. Your body needs about 20 minutes of full on sunlight to get the vit d you're lacking. High CRP is caused by infection, inflammation or being overweight...or PID. It is also elevated if you're taking birth control pills. By Sed rate, I'm assuming you mean ESR, erythrocyte sedimentation rate? Just another test for inflammation. She hasn't confided in you yet her thoughts on Lupus? Then how did you come by this knowledge? Do you know what Lupus is? If you had it or your dr suspected it, tests would've been run by now to verify, because lupus will kill you if left untreated. You were on accutane for quite a while...longer than most. I was on it and it can cause some wicked side effects, including bone pain. Has everyone in your family had the same cancer? Have they all had it while younger? And when you say basically everyone, who does that mean?? You're the second person to ask a question today, that a parent was best friends with the dr...doesn't matter either way. You are of age and your condition can not be discussed without you present or without your knowledge first and you have to give explicit consent on who gets to know what. If you're at the beach almost every day, then to be sure, you use a sunblock, which would also prevent absorption of the rays and would not make the vit d3. Most people are actually deficient in vit d. In rheumatoid arthritis, the small joints of the hands, wrists, feet, and knees are typically inflamed in a symmetrical distribution (affecting both sides of the body). Have they included these tests for antibodies when they took your blood? Abnormal antibodies can be found in the blood of people with rheumatoid arthritis. An antibody called "rheumatoid factor" can be found in 80% of patients. Citrulline antibody (also referred to as anticitrulline antibody, anticyclic citrullinated peptide antibody, and anti-CCP) is present in people with rheumatoid arthritis. X-rays can show bony erosions typical of rheumatoid arthritis in the joints. Joint X-rays can also be helpful in monitoring the progression of disease and joint damage over time. Bone scanning, a radioactive procedure, can also be used to demonstrate the inflamed joints. MRI scanning can also be used to demonstrate joint damage. Lupus... ■Fatigue ■Fever ■Weight loss or gain ■Joint pain, stiffness and swelling ■Butterfly-shaped rash (malar rash) on the face that covers the cheeks and bridge of the nose ■Skin lesions that appear or worsen with sun exposure ■Mouth sores ■Hair loss (alopecia) ■Fingers and toes that turn white or blue when exposed to cold or during stressful periods (Raynaud's phenomenon) ■Shortness of breath ■Chest pain ■Dry eyes ■Easy bruising ■Anxiety ■Depression ■Memory loss I have Reynaud's, it sucks..
