Hi! so my cat just had kittens and shes been acting kind of weird biting herself and hissing and we just found a flea! Is it okay for her to wear her flea collar while shes nursing her young??? or should we seek a vet to deal with our little flea problem? also does this mean the kittens have fleas?

You can use boric acid powder (usually sold as a bug powder; check the label for ingredients). Brush it into the bedding of the nest box and anywhere you want. It won't hurt the kittens but it does kill the fleas.

NO!! do not use the flea collar on her while she is nursing. There are a lot of chemicals in these collars and animal must be a certain weight to be able to wear them. If she is nursing then those chemicals could kill the kittens.
Call the vet and ask their advice but I would just give her a flea bath. I know it's a HUGE hassle trying to wash a cat but it will be the easiest way to get rid of the fleas without hurting the kittens.
There is a chance the kittens can get the fleas too. Keep an eye on them. If they do get them have the vet recommend a very gentle shampoo or go to a petstore (not walmart) where they actually carry a large variety of them and find one for kittens.

try this!

1.Take a pan and fill it with hot water
2. Add Dawn dish soap or any kind of dish soap to the pan
3. Make bubbles in the pan
4. Put the pan on the floor a couple yards away from the momma.
5.Put a lamp, or any hot light/ lamp over or next to the pan of water. "best results if the light is shined in the pan"

This will take care of the Flees that are lurking around

next_______

To get rid of the fleas on the mamma use a flea brush and comb them off of her and the kittens {be sure to put the fleas that are on the comb in water}

do not use any kind of flea control on your cat while she is nursing. It could kill the babies. Try washing her with dawn (rinse her very well) and make sure to let the soap sit on her for at least 5 minutes. then use a flea comb. If this doesn't work then you can contact your vet for more suggestions.
