There's nothing wrong with becoming friends with the people you meet on the internet. But I don't believe in going any further than that. =)

I know you want everyone to say it's a good thing. However, it's not allowed according to the Community Guidelines. If you got their e-mail address or other contact info, you've already started it, so if you want to go on, go on further.
Try online dating sites, or chat rooms where they allow this in the future though.

I've talked to a couple that I now consider to be good friends. generally speaking it's probably a good idea to start slow. but that applies everywhere.
