What are the blue pants with the numerous buttons in the front called? I thought they were dungarees but the more I look the more I'm convinced I'm wrong. All I know is that the navy uses them or at least they used to....

they are the pants for the navy "dress blue uniform". they are the dark "navy blue color". I don't know if they actually had a name. I believe they had 13 buttons on the front of them. the dungarees are the work uniform pants, they are like blue jeans. I have been out of the service for many years and I do not know if the old dress blue uniform is still used. They were trying out a new type of uniform for the enlisted men, one that resembled the chiefs uniform, as I was leaving and don't know what they ended up deciding on.

The official uniform name was trousers, blue, service dress. But they were better known by the nickname of "bell bottoms", having been memorialized in a song whose lyrics were: "Bell bottom trousers, coat of navy blue...".
Dungarees were the commonly used name for the trousers of the work uniform.
