Why did Luther add the word "alone" to Rom. 3:28?
"man is justified by faith [alone] apart from works of the Law". Protestants believe that man is saved only by faith. But doesn't it say just the opposite in James 2:24? "You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone," and James 2:26
" . . . so also faith without works is dead,".
Why do Protestants believe in salvation sola fide?
Plus, since Luther added something to the Bible shouldn't that make him accursed as it says in Galatians 1:7-9?
". . . there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." (KJV)
I'm not trying to answer my own question. Just trying to make you think. I'm really interested in what you have to say!

To linda w:
when will you Protestants get it right? We DON'T worship graven images! Geesh! At least I had my facts straight - you do believe that stuff about sola fide. All you gave me was more of the same lying rumors that I hear about Catholics all the time!
Check out what Jesus says in John 20:23 to the apostles. That's where we get confession.
And I wasn't trying to teach you Protestants anything. Just trying to find out how you justify this sola fide idea. You didn't answer the question.

What Luther added does not concern me. My Bible does not have the word alone there. However I do believe it is faith that saves us nothing else. I believe if you are saved you will have works but the works do not save you. You seem to believe we need works. What about the following verses?

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Let me clarify something I said. I said what Luther added does not concern me. Not because I don't think He was wrong to add it but because he is the one who will answer for it not me. I will neither add to nor take away from the Bible.

Gee, mister, that's awful big of you, coming down here from the Mount to preach to all of us heathen protestants. What were WE thinking all these years? Oh, that's right, we weren't.

You forgot to quote the scriptures about how Christ said it was okay now to build shrines to human beings and pray to graven images. And don't forget the verses about how we're not good enough to come to God personally, but have to confess our sins to a priest. Can't find them? Gee, makes you think, huh?

I think it is hilarious that many Protestants think it is Faith alone but if it is Faith alone why do they not think a Catholic is saved because we have this Faith too? So is it Faith or not? --- they are really something

I'm sorry dear one, but Luther didn't 'add' ANYTHING to the Bible.

He actually wanted to REMOVE a couple of books!!! (He didn't get to do THAT either!)
