Its like talking about food and looking at it from a cookbook .. ooing and ahhing about how good it must look .. talking about the ingredients that went into making such a meal yet not ever sitting down at a table with that meal placed before you, where you open your mouth and partake of this meal so that it gets inside of you and you experience all the rich flavors and texture.. aromas and yummy goodness.

Knowing God is the actually " tasting and seeing that the Lord is good"
Knowing about Him is trying to understand Him with your mind and assessing Him without actually opening up your being to experience Him.

God is Spirit.. ..you were made with a spirit to contain.. contact... and express and worship God.
In this case your spirit is the tasting organ to enjoy and experience God. If you use your mind only then you will be just in a realm where you cannot get TO God... its like eating with your foot.
TO know God you have to use the right organ..which is the human spirit that has been regenerated and filled with the very life of God Himself.
This is the real knowing. Your spirit matches God Who is Spirit.

Knowing God, is to have contact with Him on a daily basis, to give Him the Glory for the things He has done in your life. Answers to prayer. And being in that still quiet place where you can get to know Him better, by reading the Bible.

Knowing of God, is when you know that He is there, but you just haven't reached the place yet where you know, that you know, He is your Father, and He is there for you. And you haven't spent time in His presence. No one can judge you for this. People should just encourage you.

Well GoOoD knows you
he knows you very well
he always looks out for you
and will be there when you need him

Knowing of GoOoD is like
being employed... you do those
things for him as well but expect
payment and promises... eternal
life, happiness yada yada yada

Knowing GoOoD is voluntary
we do things for him and for
ourselves that would be in his
name without believing that there
is a reward... why would we do that?
because we know that he would
do the same for us

knowing God I liken myself to a sponge that is saturated in God--I invite HIM in and he fills with His Power, His Presence, his mercy, and the Peace that surpasses all understanding.
To know of God is to know he is and He has more of himself to share with me if I invite Him to enter--the deeper things of God must be sought so we may know Him and never know HIM if we have not allowed him to enter--He is gentleman and will not force HIMSELF on you--you mustinvite him in

The same difference as "knowing Jill" and "knowing of Jill." If someone tells me about Jill, I know of her. But that doesn't mean I know her. That doesn't happen until we've actually met.
