Opinions and viewpoints can reach an almost psychotic level in humans. Maybe that's why there are so many wars.

How many persons who believe in a religion actually have any knowledge or understanding of that religion other than at a superficial level? How many Christians do you think have actually read the Bible?

It doesn't take much time in the Religion category of yahooanswers to realise how much hatred and bigotry exists among the different sects that supposedly believe in the same God.

Lack of knowledge combines with ignorance and the result is not very appealing. We live in a world where persons actually know very little about their own faith or of other religions and this is what comes to light in the examples of your question.

For myself, I seek truth. It is only in truth that we shall find God. We shall not find God by denying evolution or the age of Earth and the Universe. If we believe that science and religion are based upon truth. Then in the end they must be one and the same. Those who conflict the two, are confused.

I cannot change the mindset of individuals who are biased or close minded. There are many paths that lead to the same end. Allow them to take their path. It is equally as futile to argue with those who believe in a hollow Earth or a flat Earth.

When I visit the Astronomy category and a person asks about the creation of Earth and someone answers with a verse from Genesis, I can only have pity upon this person who, either by his own choice or from another's dominance over him, has been kept in the dark. A mind cannot grow in such an environment but will only remain dormant.

I do not use science to back up the existence of God, and that has nothing to do with why I believe what I believe. It is faith, pure and simple, and faith is defined in Hebrews as the evidence of things not seen. This is how God designed the whole thing - the foundation of our relationship with Him is based on faith, a simple belief that He is, with no evidence to support that belief. Of course, as a person's relationship with God continues to mature, we have our own personal experiences with God that make us know beyond the shadow of a doubt that He exists. However, sharing those experiences with others is virtually impossible. Those types of experiences are proof to those who experience them first-hand. So, I'm not sure if I answered your question, but these are my thoughts on the issue you raise. Hope that helps.

I have always heard that it is better for the world to think you are an idiot , than to open your mouth, and remove all doubt.

Yes, I hesitate to say that it angers me, but it does disturb me when "we" argue with "them" and vice versa, and we don't have enough fact to back up our belief or statement.

It all stems from the fact that none of us are as smart as we think we are.

No, it doesn't make me mad. It just shows me how little they really do know about the subject. When they say it doesn't apply that's their way of getting out of the question, that they don't know how to answer.
