It's your way to relax. You need to fulfill that need in a healthier way - google it. Or see a qualified MD.
You are far from insane. You probably have anxiety, which millions of people do. And we all deal with it in different ways.
Or maybe you just have tactile sensitivity.
Or, it just might be a very satisfying habit, meaning - when you do it, your brain releases chemicals that make you happy, calm you. There are usually free books to rent from the library on how to end habits. This usually is Behavior Modification.
At any rate - you are not alone and there recovery for you. But it will take work. If this isn't a habit that interrupts your life, I wouldn't worry about it. If it does bother you, seek help but don't let that help shame you. There's no shame in what you do. You are not responsible for the problem, but you are responsible for the solution.
Best of everything to you!

OCD it is. Not that it's a terrible thing though. You just have what is called a "ritual" and you feel compelled to do it or you don't feel normal or ok. If it makes you feel better, do it. It only becomes a problem when it begins to interfere with the rest of your life or puts you or others into harms way. If you think about it, there may be other little quirks that you'll notice. Maybe a certain thing you HAVE to do at other times of the day in other situations.
Maybe talk to a therapist or your family doctor about it. I don't know a great deal about OCD so I'm not sure of the medication regime or if there is one at all. Look into it. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
Good luck.

It all started when you realized you needed to pull the feathers out that were poking you. Now, it has become a bedtime ritual that may help you relax. The repetitiveness of this is soothing to you. If you want to stop doing this choose something else that calms you down before you go to sleep.
Good Luck

I wish I knew why you do this because I am in the same boat as you. I have one pillow that is a feathered pillow and I don't even sleep with it but every night I feel I must pull feathers out of it . If you ever find out what it is PLEASE let me know.

Sounds like OCD. You aren't insane. Do you have obsessions such as thoughts of bad things happening if you don't pull them? Does not pulling them put in you in a state of physical and mental distress/discomfort? If yes, then my guess is OCD. Millions of people have OCD and it is easily treated with ritual-banning therapies and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies.

Not insane, certainly, but in need of some psychiatric TLC. Go find out what's wrong and what you can do to put an end to it.
