not at all, if your body is well developed physically. if you're still developing its still ok but not as much.
i was about 10 when my dad gave me weights, and if you dont over do it, youll be good. and i was in a weight lifting class last year in my 9th grade, for one year, and i saw the benefits of it really quickly (weeks). but also do some cardio, as in running and stuff like that, because its better for health wise and for looks wise to have some cardio done with your strength exercise.

it doesnt stunt your growth, i think all that is bs, if you're about 5'9 and 125 pounds, id say go for it man

good luck

------- p.s. you asked that if you could be able to lift higher than your weight, yes if you are persistant enough. i was 128 lbs, and i benched maxed at 155 lbs, one time though, you should be able to do about 140-150 by the end of a few months if you really want it. and i could do 175 on decline, which you could probably pull off the same weight as me.
maxing out, is doing your best weight. there is a different max for everyone, that ofcourse depends on how hard you wanna work on it

Lifting weights at your age will NOT stunt your growth. It can do nothing but help you, but be careful. Your age can bring several problems that you do not want.

One, is that you could get hurt becuase your bones and musscles are not developed. Yes, you are not fully grown yet. If you push it too hard, you could hurt yourself for LIFE. This includes musscle strains, tears and pulls. Also, a bone break. You will think you can handle it, but your bones will only tell you that you cant, when they break. At 14, you wil not know this until its too late.

I assume you are in High School and have an Athletic Director or School Trainer that can help you start off with a good Cardio Routine that can help you build musscle. DONT JOIN a gym at your age, you have plenty of time to spend $40.00 a month later in life. Take advatage of your school, they are free trainers for you talk too. Your gym teachers and directors did not get to where they are at, without knowing how to workout and help you.

I stress that you get professional advice before attempting this. That does not mean a local jock that pumps iron eveyday. Get advice from your school, and take advantage of it. That is why they are there.

This avenue of communication can open plenty of doors for you. It is the least used door in any high school.

Hope this helps, and let me know what you decide.

GOOD LUCK!

There's lots of controversy regarding freeweights vs machines. Depends on who you ask. But, at 14 it's extremely taxing on your forming muscles and body parts and organs to max them out. Not good. Nows not the time for taxing anything. Hook up with an experienced person at the gym and get some knowledge, help, and feedback. You can max yourself out later, when you're older. Fuel your body with good nutrition for now, & easier workouts, lots of water.

Lifting weights will not stunt your growth at all, in fact I suggest it. Weight lifting is a great source of exercise, it will do your body a lot of good.

I don't think so. Just don't over do it. Don't lift very heavy things. Just do light squats. Work your arms and chest a little. But don't take suppliments, don't lift heavily and limit it to 3 or 4 times a week.

lifting weights does not stunt the growth and there is no medical evidence that has ever shown that it does or has. one of many very incorrect pieces of information that is spread by those with no real knowledge of human physiology.

No, just don't lift more than 5 lb weights. I think you are pretty safe, if you don't overdue it.
