Gabapentin is a drug for seizures and also used for nerve pain. I am on it and use it for nerve pain. A Dr. injured a nerve in my neck which caused chronic pain, I take the gabapentin along with pain pill and muscle relaxer 3 times a day, it works great. Without it my pain is worse, my Neurologist told me it is used for nerve pain but started out as a seizure medication, they are not sure why it works but it does.

Gabapentin is used to help control certain types of seizures in patients who have epilepsy. Gabapentin is also used to relieve the pain of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN; the burning, stabbing pain or aches that may last for months or years after an attack of shingles). Gabapentin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. Gabapentin treats seizures by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. Gabapentin relieves the pain of PHN by changing the way the body senses pain

Gabapentin (GA-ba-pen-tin) is used to help control some types of seizures in the treatment of epilepsy. This medicine cannot cure epilepsy and will only work to control seizures for as long as you continue to take it. This medicine is also used to manage a condition called postherpetic neuralgia (pain after “shingles”). Gabapentin is available only with your doctor's prescription, in the following dosage form: Oral Capsules (U.S. and Canada) Oral Solution (U.S.) Tablets (U.S. and Canada)

its used for neuropathic(nerve)pain . it needs to be used carefully as it is a potent medication. it is usually titrated up from an initial dose of 200/300mgs once a day, up to 200/300mgs three times a day until symptoms are relieved. this may be different for you as pain is very subjective.its very effective for burn victims, amputees (phantom limb pain) and those who struggle with pain control particularly after surgery.
