Stick with lean meat, tofu, high fibre starches, veg/fruits and lowfat dairy, obviously.
But here are some good dieting foods...
- sugar-free jello cups (juicy gels are my favourite, since they're veggie)
- Flavoured tuna - it's as low as 80 calories per tin
- Marshmallows, since one cup is less than 150 calories
- Shrimp cocktails - 10 medium shrimp are ~75 calories
A couple of ideas:
Sugarfree meringues:
5-10 calories per meringue, and super high protein.
Ingredients: 4 egg whites, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 cup splenda granulated, 1/4 tsp cream of tartar.
Instructions: Preheat oven to 200 and line a cookie sheet with parchment. Beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks, then slowly beat in the splenda, cream of tartar and flavouring. Spoon onto cookie sheet. Bake for about 2 hours until golden. Eat.
Crustless Pumpkin Pies:
Ingredients: 1 can of pumpkin pie filling, 2/3 cup splenda granular, 4 egg whites, 1/4 cup skim milk, 1/2 tsp ground cloves, 1/2 tsp ground ginger, 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon.
Instructions: Whisk the ingredients together for a good minute. Pour the mix into ramekins. Bake at 425 for 15 minutes, and then 350 until the centre isn't jiggly (the time depends on the size of your ramekins).
- Fat free, and less than 75 calories each
A couple other ideas...
Make a lasagna with zucchini cut into flat pieces to replace the lasagna pasta. It's way, way lower calorie, but tastes pretty good.
Eat lots of portobello mushrooms - grilled, basted with butter spray, as buns for veggie burgers, stuffed with a little cheese and breadcrumbs etc. etc. They're so good and so low calorie.
Replace regular burgers with tuna burgers and veggie burgers. The Boca, Nature Burger and Sol brands taste remarkably like regular meat.

The best way I found to lose weight is to cut the portions and increase the exercise. Put your food in small bowls and small plates so you have more control over your portions. That seems to be the reason diets like Weight Watchers works so well.
Also, stay away from things with high fructose corn syrup - like soda pop, processed foods like store-bought desserts and any prepared foods. It seems that ever since that was developed in the 1970s people have continued to get fatter and fatter.
Take the breading off chicken or just bake it. Take the skin off too when you eat it - leave it on when you cook it to hold in the moisture.
Cut fat off meats, try to stay away from deli meats because of all the preservatives in it.
Limit your breads and cakes/cookies.
Unfortunately that leaves meats, fruits and veggies. I found that if you eat a whole apple, it can cause your blood sugar to go up if you're diabetic but 1/2 apple won't. So if you eat fruit, limit the quantity in one sitting.
I don't recommend diet sodas if you do drink pop because of the caffeine in it and the chemicals.
Hope that helps.

Here's a few healthy recipes I often make. They're from the fat resistance diet. Hope you like em.
Cinnamon Lemon Poached Pear with Cherry Syrup
2 Ripe Pears
Juice of 1/2 Lemon
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1/8 Cup Chopped Almonds
1 Cup of Water
2 Sprigs of Mint
Tablespoon Cherry Concentrate
Peel and core pears. Put pear, water, cherry concentrate, lemon juice and cinnamon in a saucepan. Cover and simmer for 7-10 minutes or until fork tender. With a slotted spoon remove and plate pears. Simmer liquid until syrup is reduced to desired consistency and spoon on pears. Top with chopped almonds and mint. Serves two.
Portobello Pizza con Ricotta
2 Portobello Mushrooms
1/4 Cup Nonfat Ricotta Cheese
4 Slices Tomato or 1/4 Cup Canned Crushed Tomatoes
2 Garlic Cloves, Minced
6 Tablespoons Shredded Lowfat Mozzarella Cheese
2 Tablespoon Chopped Fresh Basil
Pinch of Salt
Freshly Ground Black Pepper
Preheat the oven to 375. Clean the mushrooms and remove the stems. Place mushrooms top down on a nonstick baking sheet and spread ricotta across each mushroom. Add the tomatoes and garlic, then top with mozzarella and basil. Bake for 10 minutes or until the cheese is slightly browned. Season with salt and black pepper. Serves one
