Glass won't decay or rot. It will be around for a LONG time. Just like diamonds. It is environmentally rather benign.
Plastic, on the other hand, may decompose rather quickly in comparison. There are MANY different types of plastic and some may take more than 50,000 years to rot, some maybe just 10 or 15 years.
The DOWN side of plastic is , MOST release or create toxic chemicals and release them into the environment as they decay.
A simple fact of so-called "biodegradable" plastics is, as they rapidly decay, they release MUCH higher levels of toxic byproducts into the environment as a result of that rapid breakdown.
Oh, when was the last time you cut your feet on broken glass?

Glass is found in nature, plastic is a human creation. Only glasses containing heavy meatals (Pb, Ba, Cs) or a toxic fining agent (As, Sb) pose recycling issues. The only glasses with these components are in high end electronics andthe manufatcurers of those glasses have already created and are making green alternatives. It should also be noted that glass can be melted and re-made into another glass product. Plastics cannont reform rigid shapes once they have been cast, they can only be recycled for use as industrial adhesives and solvants.
