have some stationary printed up w/ the new mr and mrs names on it...
or how about a thing for the mail box made out of wood w/ their names on it....or even a welcome matt

I say just look over their wedding registry and then comparitively shop for whatever item interests you the most in getting them. I suggest going to places like wal-mart, or odds and lots. Maybe even a small specialty store that might be having a clearance sale and selling stuff for half off or something. That usually helps for sure.
P.S. Always check the registry early that way you can make sure you have enough time to shop around for gifts and not getting something last minute.

A wedding photo album - if you go to a scrapbooking store, a lot of times you can find someone who will make one and put it together where all the person has to do is add their pictures. They are beautiful! Also, you can find wedding picture frames that are really nice - they sometimes sell one where you can put the wedding photo on one side and the wedding announcement on the other.

That depends on where you go to buy the gift. I usually go to a Tuesday Morning, or even to a Big Lots......I've found beautiful lead crystal pieces (such as covered cake plates, long candle sticks), and silver pieces that are good pieces for as little as $10.

Gift certificates or give them the cash, I know it may seem tacky but most every newly wed needs the $$ more than the stuff!
