I tried being vegetarian for two years, while I was living with my Vegan ex-girlfriend. It didn't go well for me, and I did it right. I was pale, I bruised easily, I was run down all the time, I craved meat constantly. I think I just wasn't wired for it. And I don't think a diet high in soy and low in animal protein is good for men -- soy has been shown to mimic estrogen (I'm surprised I didn't start growing boobs, really). You say "religious vegans," but what other kind are there? Veganism is a moral decision. It is an ascetic path. If you're doing it for health reasons, you're mistaken. If you are doing it for spiritual or moral reasons, and you can accept that you'll have to be on suppliments for the rest of your life, and you're NOT imposing it on your children, then I respect you and I respect your decision.
Also, I found harshmistressmoon's response chilling. Veganism and Vegetarianism are personal choices. They are not healthier and are not natural. As such, they should not be imposed on the rest of us. It is people like you who stand in the way of the freedom of the individual. If you choose to not eat meat, and are intellectually honest with yourself about the dangers and potential consequences, then go for it. But don't force it on me.

Religious or not, there is also the problem of the super taster. They have more taste buds than other people and are especially sensitive to bitter tastes. Many of them find vegetables nearly inedible despite their best efforts.

You can still practice ahimsa (non-violence) and not be vegan. If you are careful about where you get your meat. If it was raised humanely and killed respectfully. I know some would disagree but...

Why just religious vegans?
And what disorder did they have?
I'm a vegetarian, but I could care less what you put into your body.

I suspect you might be right, though I don't know what religious vegans think about anything, assuming they think about something.

It has become a religion; you are absolutely right that some people would do themselves great harm with that lifestyle

No.
It is wrong to eat meat.
There should be a law against eating poor, defenseless animals.
But we shouldn't judge someone for doing so.
