if not, do you think they should?

It depends on the tea. Most teas will go stale within a year or two, although you can retain freshness by avoiding heat, light, moisture, and air (some tea fanatics even nitrogen-flush and then vacuum seal their tea in small packages). Some kinds of roasted oolongs can be re-roasted yearly to retain freshness. One kind of tea, pu-erh, is fermented rather than oxidized like other teas and actually gets better and more valuable over time! I recently bought a good half-pound 10-year old pu-erh cake for $200, and that was a considered a bargain! The best pu-erh I've ever tasted was 70 years old, but it was too expensive to buy in quantity.

Twinings Loose Leaf Tea

That is an excellent question!!!!
Tea bags: tea is so small to begin with that in about a year it will loose moisture and flavor. My suggestion is to buy teabag tea only if it has expiration date, then put oyur own "buying date" on the box and start counting. After a year if you still have the tea, make a nice herbal bath with it because the taste and benefits are most likely gone.

Loose tea: All tea stores should have expiration date on their tea. Feel free to ask and berify it too. Loose tea is good for 2 years if the container is open. If its vacuum sealed ist good for up to 10 years!!!

Good luck buying tea!

tea does kind of go bad, but can still be used, it just won't taste the same as in the beginning. of course, in an extreme case, a tea leaf, especially the loose kind, could even get moldy, depending where you live. i do think an expiration date would be ok for tea. at least as a guideline.

Sometimes they do, sometimes not. They do tend to get weaker after a year or two, but they don't really go bad.
