Most common reasons would be UTI, kidney stones, not being fixed, or unclean litter. My 6 year old Maine **** is very persistant that his litter be cleaned everyday. If he goes in there and its too dirty he'll sit by the litter and meow till I go clean it. He has me very well trained!

Has it been checked for a urinary tract infection (UTI)? The main reason cats stop using the litter box is because of a urinary tract infection. Is it a male? You might want to get it fixed if it isn't because this often helps with marking territory. Also, make sure you clean the litter box at least twice a day because cats will not use a dirty litter box.
You shouldn't call your cat "bad"- it's obviously caused by something that you, the owner, have not checked into and had evaluated by a vet.

There are lots of reasons a formerly well behaved cat will start urinating outside the box, some of them are: a urinary tract infection, diabetes, change in brand of litter, not keeping box clean enough, pan is old, adding a new cat, person, or dog to the household, moving the pan, stress in the house, change in diet, a change in the area the pan is in that scares the cat, upheavel in the house, as in remodeling. If any of these apply, you may have found your answer.

Our cats will **** on our bed when the litter is not changed enough. Cats can be finicky. They won't go into a litter box that smells bad or is in a high traffic area. They want a clean private place to go just like you do.

Don't be so quick to condemn your cat and call him bad. It may be that he is trying to tell you something, and that is the only way he knows how cuz, hey, he don't speak English. Punishing him is a mistake. You need to find out more about what's going on. Litter box etiquette (for you, that is) is very important, i.e. keeping it clean, right spot in the house, easily accessible, litter brand to his liking, etc. Also it could be medical. You need to investigate and call a vet.
