I'm just really curious, it seems like everyone has their own reason for being in this topic. It could be that you can be trying to prove yourself right, or you can be trying to prove others wrong. I'm a Christian, and religion is very important to me, but I think this religion topic on yahooanswers is pointless. All people do is argue with these controversial topics, and it goes nowhere. What are your reasons for being in the religion and spirituallity topic?

It merely amuses me, and as an added side benefit, I occasionally meet some pretty cool people.

Eternal Hope!!! I basically just started in this forum and haven't asked nor answered many questions. However, after reading many of them, I'm the ultimate dreamer and hoping everyone can just get along. You're a christian...I'm a pagan...nice to meet you.

As I read all the bashing posts or the obvious "trying to start an arguement posts"...I just keep hoping that someday, someday, someday...people will realize that not everyone is the same and will have different beliefs. I would absolutely hate it if everyone thought the same as I did. My wife likes chocolate...I like vanilla. I don't hate or bash her for not liking the same as me. So why is there such a debate about religion? There always will be...I'm just hoping for a little more lean towards the "to each their own" side of the fence.

I agree with you on the whole arguing thing. The fact is religion and spirituality has a different meaning for everyone. So I try not to get involved with those.

In some cases I am curious about anothers religion or want to have a question answered for theology class.

Honestly, I love meeting people from different places. I enjoy hearing what others believe and feel, I like to learn from people, and share my love for Christ. I figure I can interact with people from all over the world, places I may never go, and hope that I can make a difference in some small way to someone who is hurting, or just needing a friend. I dont set out to Bible Bash anyone, but I will share what God has to say. I try to be respectful, and acknowledge that others believe differently,but that doesn't make them stupid

To avoid being in a "Baptist Bubble" and strengthen my witness in the real world. I have learned a great deal about other beliefs and the lack of them. I especially appreciate some of the questions posed by atheists. Whether I answer them or not, I do take the time to really think about it and pray about it if it's an intelligent, difficult question. I just try to ignore the ones that are obviously rooted in hostility from people who have issues.

The most important thing in life is love. Whether someone trusts the Lord or something else in the material realm (like religion or money or a spouse) is the most important use of free will, and that is all messed up because the Devil is a capable and clever deceiver.

Honestly speaking, I am not here to argue or put other religions down...

I am a muslim and I feel that ALOT of people have the wrong impression of true ISLAM they dont seem to understand the difference between TRUE islam and how some extremists have changed it.

I am basically here to read other peoples opinions and just to get a better picture of how people from different backgrounds think and interpret..

You've answered your own question - everyone has their own reason. And BTW, BOTH sides seem to be trying to prove others wrong.

How would you like this topic to look? If everyone's in agreement - saying the same things and believing the same things, what's to ask, what's to answer - and, what's to learn? Isn't that what churches are for?

I am also a Christian, and I like to try to answer people's questions with the TRUTH!! (being the Bible's answers) and I try to help others see what has made me so happy (Jesus) and what can make them happy too! (and give them eternal life!)
Jesus said, go out unto all the world and spread the good news! Why not the internet? Its the fastest! The faster the better!
Love in Christ

Because if am sincere i will always find the truth here;
Because if I'm respectful of others ' opinions and do not put
people down, they will also respect mine and will lift me up;
Because here, i see the different viewpoints and insights
between the atheists and the believers, between the
Christians and Muslims, between Catholics and non-
Catholic Christians;
Because here i find both the best and the worst of humanity;
Because for those who love, we include in our prayers
even the disrespectful, the untruthful, and the insincere
people and both the best and the worst people and all
the believing and non-believing people because God
loves all of them even those who don't love Him and
believe in HIim and we cannot do less

I'm a Deist, and I'm religious. My major in college was religious studies, and I would like to answer serious questions about religion and dispel much of the false information that floats around here.
