Why is he portrayed as a white guy in all the paintings out here in America?

Was it because the Europeans wanted to put White people closer to God?

PD I'm not bashing whites. I'm just agreeing with most Historians say. Nothing I'll believe more than their opinions.

I'm sorry, your dream is simply not enough evidence to convince me of your statements.
Dreams have been proven to be something you create yourself, based on knowledge in your brain that you've already obtained. For example, if you never would've heard the name jesus before that day, you wouldnt have had that dream.

Jesus did have a dark skin color (not black, I said dark, which means brown) not only because of where He was from but also he worked as a carpenter and was outside a lot tending to make him darker skinned.

According to the Gospel of Matthew, when Jesus was arrested in the garden of Gethsemane before the Crucifixion, Judas Iscariot had to indicate to the soldiers whom Jesus was because they could not tell him apart from his disciples. People of that time being dark skinned.

I think that Jesus was dark-skinned, probably black-haired, and very ethnic looking. I'll tell you why....when Mary was found to be pregnant out of wedlock, Joseph hurried her out of Israel so she wouldn't be stoned, for a prostitute. They lived in Egypt (part of Africa), and blended in well enough, as to be unmolested by the locals. So, Mary must have been very dark, too, and Jesus had at least half of her DNA, right?

I am white but I know from what scripture says that He (Christ) is not a pale man but He probably wasn't very black or brown either. He most likely looked like the others that lived in the nation of Israel during His time because Judas Iscariot was told to kiss the cheek of Jesus so that they could be sure who He was. He blended in with the crowd. I'm guessing with all of the walking He did He probably got alot of sun and was on the dark side. Dark hair too. Maybe even slightly curly. Who knows for sure. I don't have the scripture at hand but there is a scripture that describes His look. He wasn't considered to be what they thought as handsome either. Not all Jews are white. There are black Jews, Chinese Jews, etc..... But considering where Jesus was from and grew up I am betting He looked like most of the people who are from Israel.

Jesus out have been an olive skinned Arabian looking guy. unhappy to assert if Jesus rode on an airplane a fabulous variety of yankee Christians could ask your self if He exchange right into a terrorist. Jesus lived in Israel. He sounds like an Israeli. this is extremely no longer annoying to be sure. the reason Jesus is generally depicted as a white/Caucasian is that all of us choose to image Jesus as being like us. In African-American communities Jesus is from time to time depicted as black. whilst technically misguided the entire theory of God exchange into guy exchange into so as that He must be one persons and relate with us. there is not any longer something incorrect with picturing Jesus as though suits with your ethnicity however the only people who're marvelous in that assumption are Jews.

It was a characteristic of 19th century realism. They did the same thing in paintings drawn from classical mythology. There was no ulterior motive. But most of the paintings used white guys as models.

the answer is NO.

there is a verse in the old testament which says God is Black.
there is a verse in the book of revelation that describe Jesus as being tan of color, but that does not imply he was dark.

the first statement becomes a hebrew analogy. related to being either depressed and sorrowful
the second statement does not mean that Jesus was pure white either but it doesnt say he was Black skinned. I have seen paintings of jesus being black. Or movies where he is portrayed as an indian. this is wrong.

I had a dream where i called upon the lord and a person appeared in my dream and he had a brown beard and was more white than any other nationality. If i had called upon the name of jesus and I see a brown bearded man that is closer to being caucasion than he is being an american indian, or a black man or any other dark skinned race, I would first have to ask wheter that man I saw was actually jesus, or an angel that came to reap the souls all around me.

then you also have to ask if people ever wrongly decided that any similar dream or image in a dream was incorrectly interpreted as Jesus.
After all that I have seen Paintings with many different veiws of what jesus looked like. all of them are different, therefore i came to the conclusion that many are FALSE Witnesses of what they assumed to be jesus.

btw look at my avatar, the picture i chose, is most closely in likeness to what i saw as I stood in the glory of Jesus.

Jesus was born a Jew. That's a pleasant Mediterranean in color, not exactly a dark skin tone or white European.

I would think any light color would be to represent in artistic form a holy aura about Him.

In Vietnam, Jesus is portrayed as Vietnamese.

In many places in Africa, Jesus is portrayed as having dark skin.

In fact, being a semitic person of jewish descent, Jesus would have almost certainly had olive skin, dark eyes and hair, and worn his hair and beard long. He would also have worn the robes typical of the people of that region in that era.

Why should it matter, anyway?

Chers :-)

i have wondered that my self, because that is not how he is described in the Bible.
for the past 40 minutes, i have been looking for the passage, can´t find it.
I don´t believe Jesus was white, nor do i believe he was black. I do believe he was brown. His mother was half Jew and half Gentile. So, Jesus was quarter Jew, quarter Gentile, and half God. He could be seen how ever you wished to see him.

the description, i found it :
1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks [one] like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
1:14 His head and [His] hairs [were] white like wool, as white as snow; and His eyes [were] as a flame of fire;
1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and His voice as the sound of many waters.
1:16 And He had in His right hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and His countenance [was] as the sun shineth in his strength. (KJV translation)
on the second link :)

it only took me an hour to find it after i seen the question, sorry.

More appeal and more people could relate to him if he was white. If he was real historically he would look somewhere along the lines closer to a Middle Easterner then a Caucasian...
