I want to make some Halloween cut out sugar cookies now and freeze them to be take out before the holiday and frost them. Will they be okay if I do it now or is that too long? I use real butter in all my cookie recipes and the best possible ingredients I can find here. I don't want them to taste old or freezer burnt.

That should not be too long. Just make sure they are wrapped air-tight. It takes a minimum of about 3 months for frozen fat of any kind including butter to begin to change chemically and get freezer burn.

Ms Crone, I still have cookies left over from last Christmas that were frozen and sealed in plastic. They haven't freezer burned (dessicated) and are stil as tasty as when I first froze them. It helps if you put them into the microwave for a few seconds (about 15 on high) to thaw them a bit. They should be perfectly fine to freeze now and still taste very fresh on Samhain.

If you pack them right they'll be just fine.
I begin my Christmas baking in early November and I bake hundreds of cookies. I simply layer them in freezer containers made by Rubbermaid or Dixie, I put a layer of wax paper or paper towels between each layer of cookie. They thaw out in absolutely no time and are just as good as when I made them. You certainly can freeze frosted cookies also.
