I'm familiar with a department close to Greensboro and the officers are typically on 12 hr shifts. There is generally an overlap in shifts during the last two hrs of the shift to bring is fresh faces and to allow the officers who've been on to wind down. Every department varies but you may have 2 days on 2 days of or 4 days on 4 days off. Meaning you work in a cycle . Your shift time will also change every few weeks. Example. 3pm -3am shift one month and 6am shift till whenever the next month.

Depends on the department.
I have seen a lot of schedules
8 hours a day 5 days a week
10x4
12x3 one week, the next 12x3 with an 8 hour shift for a total of 4 days.
So it really depends.
At many departments around here. Rookies will start on the night shift with their FTO and possibly route a couple shifts throughout their training program.

Most cops work an 8 , but you always have overtime . Paperwork after a long day of arrest , also court dates. And just because its 4 o'clock . Doest mean you dont have to book that DUI . My dad works 12 hour shifts though , so he can have 3-4 days off a week .

Some agencies are 4 - 10 hour days, some 3 - 12 hour days and some 5 - 8 hour days. Overtime can happen at any time and extend a day up to 16 hours total - but usually not more.

Usually 8, although the hours can be all over the place. I used to be a journalist who covered cops, and some of them worked the graveyard shift, some of them worked in the afternoon, soom worked "flex" schedules, some worked 40 hours over three days and took the rest off ... they don't work longer hours, though, unless it's a special situation like a major emergency or a large event with crowds

Each agency sets it's own shifts. Some are 8 and some are 10-12 hours. And they can be an any hour of the day. ( I personally work from 11 pm to 7am) And each agency will have different policies on overtime, you may get ALOT of it, and you may not get any. You can count on working weekends and holidays though, especially until you get a few years under your belt. Good Luck!

Most of your north Carolina agencies work 12 hour shifts 6-6. The work 2 days on two days off three days on and four days off then switch to the opposite shift. Some agencies work the same shifts where they stay on first, second , or third and work 10 hour shifts.

You can look at working between 8 and 12, without overtime. Typical hours for a newbie will be night shift. You get to work days when you get up in rank, or make detective.
