I have a pure bred CKC Shih Tzu that just went into heat! I also have three different people who want me to use their studs. I just don't know though!

One is a Lhasa Apso. He seems nice, but his owner wants a puppy AND a stud fee.

The second one is a Jack Russell Terrier. This dog is extremely high strung, but his owner only wants $300 as a stud fee and that is half of what I can sell a puppy for!

Then there is the Miniature Bull Terrier. He is a little bigger than my girl, but only 5 lbs, that shouldn't be a problem, should it? They only want pick of the litter.

So, what do you think? Which one should I use?

Wow. i've got picked up plenty out of your submit here: --> you realize no longer something approximately breeding and the splitting of money/costs/clutter. --> you realize the Jack Russell Terrier is extreme strung (which isn't suitable temperament!) and you're nonetheless thinking him because of the fact you could earnings by employing advertising the puppies. for this reason you care no longer something for the well-being of the puppies, their tempermants or the abode that they visit--all you care approximately is the money. --> you're purposely breeding so as which you will produce mutts. Huh. --> you likely have not have been given any theory approximately each and all of the issues in giving start, e.g. caesarian. puppies and mothers die. and you likely have not even theory approximately screening for any wellbeing issues on your Shih Tzu and the means studs. --> you haven't any longer have been given any theory how many undesirable dogs there are euthanised each 12 months in shelters, and the mutts you produce ought to probably be depriving dogs with large temperament and wellbeing from a stable proprietor because of the fact your mutt puppies took their place. My advice: do no longer BREED. Get your dogs spayed. merely because of the fact she's "organic bread" (OMG, wow, is she like baguette or croissant?) it does no longer mean she would desire to breed.

No!!!!! Use mine! I'll let you use my Brittany OR my Schnauzer!

My Brittany is registered with AKC! He has Indefinite Listing Privilege! That means all his puppies (even CKC puppies) can be registered with AKC! And he has a title! CD means "Champion Dog" which means he definitely needs to be a daddy!

Please! I really want a Brittashih or a Schiht Tzuzer. I'll pay you!

I have an idea! Why don't you breed her to all five studs! Then you can get, Lhasa Tzu, Jack Shih, Miniature Bull Shih, Brittashih and Schiht Tzuzer all in one litter!

I have a champion AKC Standard Wirehair Dachshund that is black & tan and would make beautiful pups with your CKC registered Shih Tzu (at least you spelled it correctly)

Sometimes I just get a huge headache reading and then trying to talk sense into those that just don't have a grasp of sense. You just can't fix Stupid.

Tie her out in the front yard for a week. You'll get stray males coming up and breeding with her, no stud fee! And it will be like a big surprise when she has the pups, you won't have a clue what they are mixed with!

And don't forget to feed the mom & pups Alpo dog food mixed with table scraps, it's the best!

This is a no brainer.. You use all three.. you pay your stud fees, you give out the picks and those puppies that you have left are worth an absolutely fortune... Those puppies my friend are called ShihT Ase Bulls... You never heard of those right?? Cause they are sooooo rare , it's mad! OMG breed with all 3 you will be freaking when you see those puppies!

Oh, you have to go with pick of the litter! It is the most cost effective for you! I mean, his size won't be a problem. Nature always runs its course and your girl will be fine. No need to worry about a C-section either. That's just a waste of money anyway.

Oh, and don't spend you hard earned cash on vet trips either... like I said, nature will do it's thing and all will be fine!

And I'll bet all your friends just can't wait for the Bullsh!t so they can pay $600 for your wonderful new breed and take a puppy home! Once they sell, you got nothing to worry about, will make a profit and then can maybe afford the stud fee on your next breeding in like 6 months!

Hey, you got a copy of the backyard breeders handbook? Been thinking about having a go myself ;)

Go modern. Normal breeding practices are SO passe. Genetically splice her with a crocadile and you'll have the world's best watchdog...a crocashitz! Whatever you do, DON'T use the jack russell. Then all you'll wind up with is jack shitz. The lhasa will give you lhasa shitz, and the mini bull terrier will give you bullshitz. I'd breed mine with a dachshund...it gives me dashitz.

None of the above. You aren't going to like this answer but here goes. If you are just wanting a puppy go to the animal shelter and adopt. Don't breed just for the heck of getting puppies especially if you don't have a solid plan to keep or rehome every puppy that might be produced BEFORE you breed. We have way too many unwanted dogs to casually add to the problem.

I am going to assume now that I have said that you want to become a responsible breeder, not just a backyard puppy mill. Your choices of stud makes me suspect you haven't thought things through enough, so that's why I'm answering your question. I hope you will actually consider my advice. If you can't breed on this heat cycle using these criteria, put it off six months and do some research. Please.

FIRST evaluate your dog against the breed standard for the breed. If she's a good specimin of her breed, then search for a responsible breeder, not a backyard breeder, with a stud to take your dog to who will...
A) match your dog's good qualities
B) not double up on any physical or genetic faults
C) not contribute any genetic problems in your pups you don't already have
D) Is also a good specimin of the breed physically
E) be of the same breed and registered

It's not worth breeding and paying a stud fee unless you have a specific goal in mind for what you're going to do with the puppies and to pay that much money at least be able to register the babies. Also research to find out what the genetic problems in your breed is. I would venture to say facial nose features will be a concern because of reduced ability to breathe, eye placement and construction because in some flat faced breeds they can get eye damage or have the eye pop out of socket. Also some of the smaller breeds have problems birthing pups. Boston terriers are notorious for example having problems with not being able to birth without c-section. Also some breeds require health checks to rule out genetic health problems. For example Collies require eye checks, shepards require hip checks etc. Good breeders of your breed will be able to tell you what to expect and what health checks their stud dog has had.

Also keep in mind that terriers (two of those on your list) were originally bred to fight or to hunt and kill small animals. Therefore you must take temperament into account. I don't imagine terrier aggressive temperament and frenetic need for exercise will mix well with Shi Tzu.

Breeding, or at least being a good breeder, means you are contributing something of value to the gene pool to carry into the future. Don't let excitement carry you away. Not everything that's physically breedable should be bred or bred to. Please do some investigating first and don't let smooth talkers hoping to make a buck push you into a rash decision. You don't HAVE to breed her on this heat. If it's her first heat, most reputable breeders will tell you to wait anyway for the good health of your female.

Go online to research your breed or contact the Shi Tzu breed club for breed standard and information and people contacts who own dogs of your breed in your area.

Your'e not serious are you??

Being purebred is NOT enough to breed, is she a champion? how can you better the breed by breeding her?
Obviously she is not a champ or you would never even think about breeding with anything other than another champion of her own breed.

Get that little girl spayed as quick as you can, if you say you cannot afford a spay than you have no business owning a pet. Breeding her can kill her and cost you more money than a simple spay.
