coined a snappy but senseless phrase that says people do the killing, not the gun, and unintelligent people accepted a nonsensical statement. Just because a person pulls the trigger does not cancel out the fact that the bullet from the gun killed someone. Guns kill. If there were no guns, would people use knives? A few would, but you have to get close to the person and that is risky. No guns in the country would save millions of lives over the years. YOU might get killed in the next few years, but your grandchildren would live longer when all the guns were finally irradicated. We know getting rid of all the handguns already in America could take two generations.
Don't be so selfish Americans! Think of your grandchildren! Let them live in a peace that you will never know personally.
(I know I am talking to a "brick wall" in many cases, and people who don't care about anyone but themselves.) But I say again, give your grandchildren a break, or even your great grandchildren!

If they don't have a gun they will find something else to use. I'm tired of this blame game. The drugs made me do it.. The bullet killed him not me... How silly for you to think our grandchildren will live longer with no guns. How do you figure that? If someone wants to kill they are going to do it. You might get killed in the next few years by a car, come on snap out of it. If your concerned for your grandchildren direct your mean-spirited verbal abuse towards the real enemy, the President, the Political machine who has scared this country into submission with terrorist acts of their own doing. Ordering and condoning the killing of thousands of innocent people, poisoning of your grandchildren's food, water, air, minds and future all for the almighty buck. Direct your energy towards the real evil doers that don't care a thing about your grandchildren or their future. Guns should be the least of your worries...

Guns do not kill, unless a person pulls the trigger. Guns are inanimate objects, not capable of firing or operating without a human being. Motor vehicles of all types and classes do not kill, unless operated by a human being, such as a moronic nut using a cell phone when attempting to drive, and collides head on with another vehicle, also operated by a human being. Baseball bats kill only when used by a human being as a deadly weapon. Knives (edged weapons) kill only when used as a deadly assualt weapon, such as the brutal murders commited by scumbag O.J.Simpson, when he murdered his wife and Ron Goldman. Virtually any inanimate object can become a deadly assault weapon, only when a human being directs and controls that object. Now for a reality check in the real and ugly society in which we live; guns are here to stay, and even if the police state should violate our 2nd Admendment rights and confiscate all of the legally owned guns from law abiding citizens, illegal gun possession would still be in the tens of millions. Motor vehicle accidents kill many more people than gun related incidents every day in the U.S.A. and the world. Anyone can dream of a Camelot, where there is no need for a gun or other weapon, however, the U.S.A. is not even close to becoming a Camelot. Each and everyday in this country, the U.S.A., a person with a concealed carry or access to a gun, has prevented a crime or killing from taking place on numerous occassions, and the leftist, liberal news media is never going to report these facts.

That pencil analogy was a good one. Guns do not kill anybody. Guns are inanimate objects. To kill something or somebody implies intent. An inanimate object cannot form intent. That is not a "snappy but senseless phrase." It is one of the truest things ever said.
What if someone is beat to death with a baseball bat? It happens all the time. Do we outlaw baseball bats? What if someone is stabbed? That happens even more often. Should we outlaw knives?
Getting rid of guns will ensure that only criminals have them. Is that what you'd want? To take the guns OUT of John Q. Homeowner's house so he can't protect himself and give them to people who have only malicious intent? I am absolutely for gun safety. My children are little and I don't own any firearms because of that. I am for trigger locks and gun safes if they are needed in the home (such as if you choose to own firearms and you have kid). But I was raised in a house with guns (lots of them), I have been hunting and target shooting. I understand firearms. My father could have left one of his guns on the coffee table and we never would have touched it because we understood guns and that they are not toys. These accidental shootings happen when Johnny finds his daddy's gun that he never knew was in the house. Johnny has not been taught why he shouldn't play with firearms. And so he does and the consequences are tragic.
To say "Guns kill people so get rid of guns" is trying to treat the symptom and not the disease. Our violent culture is the problem. There are no guns in prison, yet those guys kill and maim each other all the time. Guns don't make anyone kill anyone; they just make it possible from farther away. Making guns illegal will not prevent criminals from having them; marijuana is illegal but you can get it if you want it. You can get ANYTHING if you want it, illegal or not. The only people who won't have guns will be the honest man (or woman) who just wants to protect their family or go hunting.
And I'd also like to add that human overpopulation and expansion has eliminated almost all of North America's large natural predators. If we do not hunt deer, smaller mammals and birds they will overpopulate and then die from starvation, sickness or be killed in the road. WE are their only natural predators.
Your solution is not feasible and it is obvious you have not thought it through. It is akin to putting a band-aid on a broken leg. You are trying to treat the problem incorrectly. YOU might be all for putting guns in the hands of criminals and leaving the rest of us defenseless but thank God, other people have thought it through.
And by the way, I had a friend whose father killed his mother on Mother's Day with a frozen turkey. He hit her with it and fractured her skull. Shall we outlaw frozen turkeys? Anything can be used as a weapon. Most serial killers chose NOT to use guns because they are not "personal enough."

So everybody who knows better is selfish? What a liberal thought!
No guns in the country is an impossibility. Suppose they all vanished tonight. Somebody would have one tomorrow. They're simple mechanical devices, and you'd have to outlaw so many other things. Think of banning charcoal, or for that matter, wood-burning. And then there's the minor matter of national defence.
Moreover, your premise goes against all evidence. Where gun "control" increases, so does death from firearms. This scales from towns with their crime rates right up to international genocides.
You obviously don't have much experience with handguns either. Pistol fatalities occur at the same range as spears and lances in days gone by.
I own dozens of guns, and none has ever hurt anybody. I've tried to pass the tradition on to my kids, in large part to keep them from the fuzzy feel-good but flawed thinking in your subtext.

The ONLY way a gun kills is if they are used to beat someone to death. If you insist on blaming the TOOL for killing, the BULLET kills, not the gun.

To respond the your second question, no most killers would not NEED a knife if there were no guns. They would BEAT people to death. Guns in the hands of law abiding citizens PREVENT more deaths than they have EVER ended.

EVERY state that has allowed law abiding citizens to carry concealed handguns has seen violent crime go DOWN. EVERY country of state that has banned guns has seen violent crime INCREASE.

YOU are not talking to a brick wall. I am talking to a brick wall.

Another Liberal living in denial...only people kill people, ever since we were given Free Will and the ability to make intelligent decisions. Been that way for a long time now and it will always be that way. After all, Cain slew Able without a gun, so take a big long drink from the cup of sobriety and pull your head out. You have a brain and the ability to use it critically. Don't waste yourself by parroting other brain-dead Liberals.

>(I know I am talking to a "brick wall" in many cases, and people who don't care about anyone but themselves.)<

Lame.

>But I say again, give your grandchildren a break, or even your great grandchildren!<

Oh, but it's for the children?

Even lamer!

Hate to burst your bubble of unobtainable goals you want to meet in your lifetime, but even a solid majority of Police Officers are opposed to gun control.

If my little Glock were able to hop around and shoot people and reload itself as well you might have a good argument. But it doesn't. And you don't.

Why don't you focus your energy to lock up those that use guns in a criminal manner. Because they are the problem.

I have the right to have a gun. However, I can have a knife, a taser, bow and arrows, etc...
What is the point in taking guns away from honest people? They are the only ones that will willingly give them up in the event they become illegal.
What gives you the right to decide if I can protect myself? It isn't like you are going to go out of your way to help me if I were being hurt by a someone, are you? Didn't think so.

Yeah- Brick wall here :

guns are just metal lumps without volition...same as cars, knives, and some baseball bats. They are like public TV-
they do NOTHING without your support.
The 'control' part of gun control refers to the person holding the gun, nothing else.
I see that you've posted this Q in several different categories...you must not like the answers you get.

We must agree to disagree on this.

In your world it sounds like guns jump up by themselves all the time, take aim, fire, and kill people.

In my world the person behind the gun is the one responsible for what the gun does. A gun is a tool, nothing more, nothing less. Like all tools it can be put to both good and bad purposes.
