Sadly this is true. It makes it easier for the charlatans and crooks to fleece the people with lies. It allows them to ride around in expensive rides for something Jesus told them to give freely.

When someone points out the truth from the Bible, it hurts them, having never been near it for so long. We stress Bible literacy. In all our meetings, the pages keep turning to see these things said are true. Letting the Bible explain itself rather than relying on human wisdom is the right course of action.

Bible truth is very often not what people think because they never questioned or looked it up. The clergy encourages this so whatever they say "appears" to be so. These days Satan doesn't have to work that hard as Bible ignorance keeps growing on it's own. He still puts in a full day though to keep the ignorance level high.

Definitely.

"Consider some of the findings from an excellent August 2005 article in Harper's magazine, "The Christian Paradox":

Only four in ten Americans can name more than four of the Ten Commandments (let's see if I can do it without looking them up: have no other gods, don't make graven images, don't take God's name in vain, don't work on the Sabbath, honor your parents, don't kill, don't steal, don't commit adultery, don't bear false witness, and don't covet).
Astonishingly, even to me, only half can name even one of the four gospels.
12% of Americans - which is something in excess of thirty million people - believe that Joan of Arc was Noah's wife.
And finally, three-quarters of Americans - very nearly the nation's entire Christian population - believe that the Bible teaches that "God helps those who help themselves". This maxim was actually uttered by Benjamin Franklin, and appears nowhere in scripture."

Yes I would believe that and no they aren't. I find it interesting to note that most Christians who are biblically literate are literate across the board. I personally have more faith issues than most illiterate Christians, but I consider myself pretty learned in scripture.

I believe so. A lot of churches don't preach the Bible anymore- they preach social issues, family values, how to improve yourself, how to have a better marriage, etc. That is psychology, not Bible. They need to start preaching Jesus and who they are in Christ.
