In Maryland you are required to have insurance. Virginia will allow you to drive without insurance but you will have to pay into the uninsured motorist fund!

If you have current auto insurance in MD (not through MAIF) you are automatically covered up to the limits of the policy. This means if you have full coverage on a car, you will have full coverage on the new car. If you only have liability, that is all you have until you call the insurance company or agent!
