Righteousness Through Faith

21But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—

You've given me a nice little Bible study tonight. My study Bible has a fairly lengthy exposition on these verses that describe Christ as the revelation of the law and the prophets, not a replacement, not a supplement. Old Testament animal sacrifice may have seemed to be the propitiation of sins for the Jews, but the purpose of the blood spilled by animals was to point to the precious blood of Jesus Christ, the true atonement for our sins, "because in his forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed". Note verse 25, "whom God set forth" which shows God's purposes being carried out for his glory, not for any "chance" at salvation via universal atonement. The notes leave a final thought of faith being the instrumental cause, not the ultimate cause, of justification.

Everything operates by the law of faith for those who understand what faith really is. Rom. 3:27.

In the case of salvation it is nothing but the blood. The blood alone atones for sin and is meaningless to those who perish. Righteousness is not ours but His; through the work of the cross and by that work we are justified.

And the summary of Chapters three and four is this: Rom 5:1. Therefore being justified by faith , we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

By Grace poured out through the Once and Everlasting All-Sufficient Sacrifice of the Blood of Jesus, true man and true God.

Salvation is by Grace alone but not by faith(belief, conviction) isolated from hope and love and the graced works that come from the practice of faith, hope and love. The "saved state" and the" state of mortal sin "cannot coexist. When we live in unrepeated mortal sin we reject the sacrifice and righteousness of God.

This justifying Grace is not a thing that covers over our sins but scours those sins away when we cooperate with Grace, which is the means, source, end and sustenance of salvation, the very communicable life and energies of God and transcends but does not destroy the Law,but makes it possible to live out the Commandments and Beatitudes.

I would suggest getting a King James bible , Romans 3:25 " Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood , to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past through the forbearance of God; "

In the Old Testement it was the blood of a spotless and perfect lamb that was slain to cover the sins of man each year. God sent His Son (Jesus the spotless lamb) to be the ultimate and final sacrifice for all mankind.....It is His Blood the washes away our sin but it is also the blood that gives Life.

Without the blood we would parish-spiritually speaking- and without blood in our bodies we would die....so blood gives life in 2 ways. Life here on earth but also eternally in the future when we stand before Christ! We will be cover by His blood and not stand condemed.

Praise God!
