when i click on the access icon on my desktop and my access program pops up, there is off to the right an area labeled "open recent database".. i sent from there, to the recycle bin, a database i no longer want. why is it that after i emptied my recycle bin containing the name of that access db, the icon still appears on the right side of the access pop up window? i wish to rid of that displayed db name.

IN the DB TOOLS>>Options under the General Tab there should be a section for the "Recently Used File List". You can control whether it shows up, and how many show up in it. To get one in particular out of the list, just open a few more DBs.

These MRU's (most recently used) files are stored in the registry. You need to remove them there. It is quite simple but be careful when you are in the registry!! If you delete the wrong thing you could have a mess.

How to get to the registry:
1. Go to Start. (at the bottom left hand of your monitor)
2. Click on Run...
3. Type in regedit.exe and click OK

You are now in the registry so procede with caution.
To remove the file names from the MRU list, follow these steps:

1. Find HKEY_CURRENT_USER and click on the + it to expand it.
2. Find Software and click on the + to expand it.
3. Find Microsoft and click on the + to expand it.
4. Find Office and click on the + to expand it.
5. Find your version of Office (I think Access 2007 is 12.0) and click on the + to expand it
6. Find Access and click on the + to expand it
7. Find Settings. Don't click the + this time. Click on the word Settings.

You will now see the MRU's listed on the right side of the window.

1. Note that the name of the database appears in the Data column. Double click the MRU you want to delete. An Edit String box will appear.
2. Delete the string (which should be the name of the database you picked in step 1 above) that appears in the Value data box.
3. Click OK.
4. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for all the MRU file names that you want to remove.
5. Close the Registry Editor and open Access.
The startup screen and File menu no longer display the MRU file name(s) that you edited in the registry.
